Oil change in Bogota

Anyone know of a reasonable place to get an oil change? Or somewhere to buy oil to do it yourself? I was quoted 75.000 for a twingo at a couple of places. Seems high to me. Thanks

WOW---That 75.000 seems like a price at least TWICE what it should be--check around some more...I'm sure some independent mobile type mechanics would do it for much less,,,maybe some our ex pat residents could chime in,,,I change mine myself for around $30 here in Miami but that is for Diesel Quality Quaker State(always more expensive) and a Diesel type Filter, also always more costly. At your price quote of $75.000, my Diesel car would cost 150.000 CP adjusted.I could change Oil on a gas car for less then $14 and that's with a quality Oil Filter and Oil(nonsynthetic).

Hmm I paid a bit more than that at Quick Oil on Calle 127 con 19. But I think they changed some other fluids and brake light bulbs as well.

You don't want to use the cheap oil, especially if you have a nice car. You can do it yourself it is so simple.

And then just dump the spent oil down the drain. (just kidding) I actually enjoy and prefer to change my own oil. The part that sucks is trying to get the old oil to a place that will recycle it. Is it hard to do that in Colombia? It is here in the US. Wal Mart requires you notifying a dude that you have spent oil. Then, he has to get a key. Then, he lets you into a secret room that is locked. Before you can dump your old oil into the recycling drum, you have to sign an afidavit saying you live in the area, produce ID, and then register how much used oil you are putting in the barrel. It is unbelievable.

RJ--Your story makes me tired just reading it! I know this isn't correct but sometimes I fill up the Empty quart containers with my old Dirty oil and then in the Midnight Hours when only no accounts and the like are on the streets, I return to the Advance Auto Store where I buy my oil and put the used oil Containers into their outside plastic 55 gal drums. I figure I am just giving something back to them they sold me in the first place. Like I only borrowed it for a while! LOL (they have a disposal service an employee told me they recycle the old oil at)

RJ almost any service facility that has a hydraulic lift will take your oil. Of course those are getting to be a rarity as well. It used to be that every gasoline station had them.
