I must say to my limited (so dont harass me, i aint an expert) experience here...I have to say I agree with GIB on many of his points of view. I think the people are very friendly. The people I am staying with are great. Never knew mariachis were mostly drug pushers (or so I was told) and to roll up my window as we rode by them. Some things I noticed...1) the driving is nuts, unless you are a local..wow 2)ppl are abrasive...more than what I am accustomed to 3) Bogota isnt a very clean city 4) great restaurant-pub-store in one block and 2 blocks down it{s pretty scary. Everyone{s gone for the holidays!!!
shocking to see kids begging for money or being a street vendor as old as 6-8? But, then again in many large asian cities you see that too. Still, I{m not use to it. I must say I truly am spoiled living in Canada. I think (early opinion) that this place would be cool to live...but hard to save money!!! If you had a lot of money and can retire here (and of course speak spanish well) it is sweeeeeeeeeeeeeet.

kernow62 says on Mar 19, 2005, 06:11: I was pleasantly surprised that Bogotá wasn't as littered with trash as I had expected. Prior to my first visit I had read in LP (worthless rag) that Colombians have no concept of litter disposal, they simply toss everything, including glass bottles out of the window of buses. I was of course only in Bogotá from El Centro north so perhaps I didn't see the littered areas. There were abundant trash recepticals and they seemed to be used.

juanalejo says on Mar 19, 2005, 06:55: Tinto You are absolutely right, many people do throw things out the window. I do not think I ever recall a campaign against it so there is a lot of civic work to be done there. But I have to say that some how we are doing something better as compared to neighboring countries we seem to be a cleaner country, it is my opinion and that of people from those countries. Where is evident the ammount of litter thrown out the window is on the tolls when you exit Bogotá as with the many street vendors while the buses queue, lots of litter gets tossed.

kernow62 says on Mar 19, 2005, 07:15: Shit is biodegradeable, there are far worse things than shit that can go into lakes and rivers. Think of all the lawn treatments bug sprays, automotive by-products. Shit is shit, a naturally occuring byproduct of all of us. Yes it would be nice to not have it wash down the sewers, but I don't think it is going to happen anytime soon. At least cats bury their shit.

vladimiro says on Mar 19, 2005, 07:19: In Medellin there you can see lots of signs on people's lawns stating something to the effect of "si su pero lo hizo por la naturaleza usted lo recoge por educacion", so there are civic campaigns for dog crap, but I haven't seen any for litter. I was disappointed to see so much litter in the botanical garden in Medellin.

So if I see a city as a dump, than of course it must be. And if I see a city like Chicago as the next best thing to paradise, than it must be paradise.

kernow62 says on Mar 19, 2005, 16:56: Lionheart at least he tried to use a bottle. I was riding the bus here in Orlando and a guy just whipped it out and pissed right inside the bus! Gatorade bottles are the best for long road trips. In fact if you mix a little beer and the green Gatorade and a touch of Orange Gatorade it looks just like piss, chug this down and it is a guaranteed laugh at the party. ja ja

Gomezman5 says on Mar 19, 2005, 19:02: Lionheart and Kernow I think you guys are getting somewhere. I remember when I was young,(very young)my grandmother used to wear a copper bracelet for her arthritis (Arthur Itis as she used to say)..She claimed it helped. So if a copper bracelet can bring about change, imagine what a copper pyramid on my head can do?? (with or without the pole) I wonder what Juanalejo thinks.

Lionheart says on Mar 19, 2005, 20:07: Gomez & Kernow I volunteer to come to Orlando, convert a Smart Car to a golf cart, and film the event for PBH, maybe JJ will assist and I add the music. BUT ... you both wear the copper pyramid with the pole while playing the golf match! Then we will see who's God will select as the victim. With my luck it will be Thor throwing a lightning bolt at the Smart Car Cart ...
