NVC prefers NO lawyers

After my lawyer misinformed me on my wife's I-130, I called the NVC and they told me my lawyer was incorrect. They told me about three times it was NOT necessary to use a lawyer. After letting this registered in my mind a day, I called the NVC again and asked if I needed a lawyer...they said substantionally, "No, lawyers actually create more problems." The NVC said I can complete the process on my own and if I had any problems to call them. Anyway, that is more than my lawyer has done.

I keep hearing that the only thing a lawyer is good for is making you pay even more money. AND for something you can do yourslef. There are a lot of people who don't use one and do just fine. I've heard of others who do have lawyers and end up not getting stuff done right. Personally, If something was to be done wrong with filing paperwork, I'd rather be the one to do it.

God Bless America!

Depends on the situation and the lawyer i think it just depends on the situation and the exp. of the lawyer ... iused one because he did the AOS for my ex wife from brazil and everything went off without a hitch and was painless and easy ....but i also was not educated about anything just like this time when i originally started to gather information for the k1 .i def think if your sitation is very easy as far as your employment no prior marriages etc just do some research and do it yourself and save the money but my situation was different and it was very important for me not to screw it up .i really dont think it matters to the goverment if you use one or not everything is correct or it is not .....also i do know i was going to provide emails and the attorney threw them out and even pointed out on 1 email why i would probaly get denied because of the context which was really harmless but could lead immigration to think differently .... he told me he gets 10-20 cases a year because of problems or previous denials because of context in emails .now learning what i have from this site and visa journey i would never have sent the emails... but some people who are not educated on the process def should eitheir spend some time researching or hire a n attorney .... just my oppinion .

Really.... the paper work is NOT that difficult and, as long as the directions are followed EXACTLY you should have no problem(and save a ton of $$$$). Lots of web siteS offer free advice and step by step help in fillING out the forms. Try a Google search.

Bbattiste Hope you got your "Advice" in writing from you "Lawyer". If he put it in writing and was wrong, causing you lots of problems, Sfile a lawsuit againt him for malpractice. However I suspect you either got free advice or nothing in writing so you will be out of luck.

Semper Fidelis !

Bbattiste If you are taking the time to read PBH then you should know by now that a number of us did not use a lawyer/attorney. If you look up the information on this site it would be unnecessary to use one as the paperwork is simple. A bit complex but easy to fill out if you just read the informtaion and follow directions exactly as it is written.
My friend used a lawyer and it cost him over $1500.00 plus the cost of the embassy, medical, travel etc.
It took him 9 months to get her this far and she should be coming this month if she gets past the interview. It took me exactly 3 months to the day to get the Visa. You can insure it is correct by following the directions and reading these post concerning the process. Then follow it on the embassy web site.
The advice here is free and good and it will get her here as fast or even faster then using an attorney and save you a pile of money. If you just want to spend the money then send it to Peter via this site, he can use it I am sure :-)
There is nothing to fear. It is a simple process. Good luck

just takes alot of reading the advice on here is very good but you have to do much research to figure out who knows what they are talking about and who is giving you information from 2 years ago that changed last month ...that was the problem i had when i first discovered the site . i had to do much reading to know that i just listen to u.c. and gator... because i had gotten bad information when i tried to read about marrying in colombia on this site and than called a lawyer and got the correct information this is what scared me -i did not know who to listen to ..........the bottom line is as long as the end result is you are together with your love -you did the correct thing with or without an attorney ... although i used an attorney for this (k1) i will not use one for the AOS as i have been through that process before i know what to do as far bank accounts - insurance and those things ..good luck to all

You can't go wrong listening to Gator. If he doesn't know or he's not absolutely sure, he says so.
