We have already been to Cartagena de Indias and Providencia on the Caribbean coast, and are interested to visit the Pacific coast looking for a new experience. We were planning to travel to Niquí but were informed by a friend from Medellín that, as there will be no whale-watching in winter, Capurganá would be a better option.
For a week… looking to relax and enjoy a unique experience…a rainforest-type environment on the coast… which should we chose? Any comments/suggestions would really help us. Thanks!

Atrevido (☼Travelguide writer) says on Aug 6, 2006, 10:05: The forest around Capurganá isn´t rain forest. It´s dry and very hot but there are some nice trails through it leading out of the village including one that starts right at the end of the landing strip. There´s a whole range of lodging from very cheap backpacker style to the very comfortable Hotel Almar. Suggest you bring reading material. The ocean is nice but there is a strong current following the shore so you enter at the north end of the beach and in no time you´re at the south end.
