Free? The thing costs money. Has a yearly charge. In order to get appropriate bandwidth in Colombia one must pay over $100,000 pesos for a 1MB internet connecton.

Maybe the definition of free needs an adjustment?

But,

Colombians are not paying heavy longdistance costs and this sensational headline "NOW COLOMBIANS CAN CALL THE US FOR FREE MAGIC JACK" is a joke.

This is one of numerous products out there that charge a fee to use their VOIP. Nothing new, nothing free.

Roci, I think it's only $20 a year. The device itself is only $40 if you buy it off the TV commercial.

I know a few people that use this setup to call from Colombia to the US. They seem pretty pleased with the service. We were going to send one to my in-laws, but their PC bit the dust. Once they get it replaced, we will send them one. As you know, we use Orbitel now, but free calls would be nice to the in-laws since that's who the doña calls most.

Yes, Douglas, they can call any US or Canadian number including cell phones. There are unlimited minutes and no restrictions on times for $20 per year. I paid $20 for the unit. And you can call them at the phone number that is assigned to the MagicJack. Not all area codes are available yet. I'm sure that a Florida area code would be available.

12 Voip.com & SMSDiscount.com calls Colombia landlines for free also with DSL or faster speed. VoipStunt is the same company, but not free to Colombia. It is nice to call Santa marta for free from Cali!
