Nothing to do with Colombia...

I'm sorry but this has absolutely nothing to do with Colombia (aside from the fact that I live here), but there's so many of you on this site that i'm hoping that someone can help me. My USB ports on my laptop have all of a sudden stopped working, meaning I can't use my mouse, my memory stick, upload pictures from my camera, etc. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drives but that hasn't worked. Does anyone have any info as to how to correct the problem! Again, sorry about the fact that this isn't about Colombia, but it's driving me crazy!!!

one to many causes
It would be hard to find the fix, what you could do is see in control panel, then system then device manager and look for the USB key or to look for any conflics on the hardware.

What computer Basicly what web said is true.

Delete the USB controller (the ones that are banged out !) in Device Manager and restart the system. If the ports still work it should auto detect it. If it ask for a driver (USB) then try to reinstall the chipset driver. Most likely it is a Intel Chipset driver.

Forward me the the following:
1) OS.
2) Manufacture.
3) Model.
4) How old is the computer?
5) What is going on in Device Manager.

Good luck.

Fix Here is the fix should the above not work and you are stuck with a hardware failure.

Purchase something called a PCMCIA or (cardbus) USB card. You will get a card with 2 USB ports on it. That will get you back up and running again. Also you can attach a USB hub to it to make it into a few more ports so your peripherals can fit.

That should work also A Cardbus PCMCIA card will work if you can find one. Not sure you will be able to find them in Colombia. If you do find one make sure it is a USB 2.0 card. The transfer rate will be 50 to 100 times faster then the orginal USB 1.1 controllers. Here in the States they run around 20 dollars or less, on sale. Not sure what you will pay for a rare, electronic part in Colombia.

The reason your memory stick does not work is it most likely runs of the USB bus. When your USB controller went on the brinks, so did all you USB devices on it. USB mouse, USB memory stick, USB hub, USB ports, ect. Most likely you have a bad USB controller. Either case try my suggestion above, let me know what systems you have. If you are interested in I can find a service center we deal with in Bogota.
