During my latest trip to Barranquilla (got back yesterday) I spent considerable amount of time in North Curramba (NC). For those unfamiliar with Barranquilla the north is the very fast growing upscale side of town, with gringo style bars, restaurants, apt buildings etc.
What was my black ass doing there? you’re probably wondering? Well, I was purchasing a brand new taxi and most of my business transactions took part in that area
The difference between the Barranquilla I grew up and the new NC is quite shocking. Not only the structure but the people are as different as day and night.
As I sat one late weekday evening at Henry’s, in NC, listening to MargaritaVille, eating a sauté salmon on a bed of lettuce, a side order of mash potatoes, drinking sex on the beach, I find myself missing dearly my loud vallenato and eating chicacharron with a side order of bollo limpio and costeñitas down in Murrillo.
I thought to myself, hey! you ugly old modefouqe! what the fok are you doing here and where did all these fokin white barranquilleros sitting all around me come from? Who the fok are all these modefoques? I feel like a fly that has accidentally fallen on a plate of fokin milk.
By the way, I was also impressed at the number of gringos in NC.
This video best depicts the faces and spirit of the authentic Barranquilla.

David in Idaho says on Jun 1, 2007, 07:26: It is nice to have you back Elmo ... My white ass will be in Curramba later this summer, but I'll be laying low in my wife's estrata two neighborhood, trying hard and failing miserably to fit in. I doubt I'll mingle uptown - sounds too much like the US!

billyb says on Jun 3, 2007, 03:10: Pod, when you commit a marranada against... somebody, it's not something to be proud of. Basically you are screwing somebody that trusted you over. And from what I have read here from you, you are very much not that type of person.
