Fox news always reports both sides of the story - The presidents side and the vice presidents side - cobert

infantile would be the best way to describe it. Chavez even says things that are more thoughtful than the verbal diarrhea that comes out of Fox.

TT-can't say for sure but Coversely, I remember the Bush Crowd at the time in the late70s, blaming Carter for the same high Gas prices, whether there was a proven cause and effect or not..he was blamed. Like it happened to Carter, on his Watch, now Bush must share blame in the same way,,,Had the USA stuck to the Energy Plan Carter started, like fuel saving cars, research into Alternative Energies, we may be in a lot better shape energy wise then we are in today,,,

Noted Oil Man T. Boone Pickens(and very republican) was on TV Yesterday saying the reason we are in the Shape(energy wise) we are in today is because "We Have No Plan", "NO Leadership". He believes the future is Wind Energy and is investing some of his 4 Billion $$$ on a Huge Wind Farm in Texas.

ES36---Yes we would because all we would have done back then is to continue our Gas Guzzling ways. We would be in bigger Hummers/SUVs consuming any extra Oil we received from drilling back in the 90s.

We are faced with the same energy crisis debate we had back in 1979. Republicans like Ronald Reagan wanted to drill for more oil and guess what? They got their way. Now where are we? During those same years Brazil began an aggressive alternative energy program. All of their cars run on FlexFuel systems using Gasoline, natural gas and ethanol and they are 100% energy independent today. We could have been the same had we stayed the course,,,

Bush crowd in the late 70's? I must have been too stoned, because I sure as heck don't remember the Bush crowd back in the late 70's. I also don't remember a bunch of people blaming President Carter for the price of oil, but I do remember receiving my first ever chain letter in the mail---it asked us all to not buy gas from Shell oil and pass it on to 10 friends.

==================================================================

Bush Crowd in the late 70s= Republicans

Late 70s= Carter was blamed for all that ailed the USA, including high Gas prices. You don't remember idling away for hours in those Gas Lines during the shortage?? It certainly happened. And all over the US!

Porter said the price controls were finally lifted in 1980, just as oil prices approached $40 a barrel, still a record when adjusted for inflation. Porter said such astronomical price increases resulted from the 1979 Iranian revolution, which significantly cut production, followed by the Iran-Iraq war, which put an even bigger crimp in supply.

Porter said that beyond the lack of political will for oil-price controls and rationing, there are various institutions in place to protect against that kind of oil shock -- institutions that weren't available in 1979 or 1980.

Carter was Prez from 76-80 and whether he had anything to do with the record high Gas Prices or not, he, like Bush, caught hell for it!

Carter blamed for high gas prices in late 70s:

The "common wisdom" is that Jimmy Carter was to blame for the gas crisis in the 1979. Many use this as an example that Democrats can't be trusted on economic issues. But it's not that simple. Jimmy Carter got a bad rap!

There were two "oil shocks" in the 70s.

The first was the increase in the price in the fall of 1973. This was a result of Nixon devaluing the dollar and abandoning the gold guarantee. See the Chronology below.

The second was in the summer of 1979. It was the result of individually logical actions that were collectively irrational.

John Sterman, in Business Dynamics, Systems Thinking for a Complex World, includes an assignment Challenge (p. 212) on the oil shock in the summer of 1979. He explains what caused the long gas lines in the Instructors Manual, p. 82:

So, where did the gas go in 1979? The total inventory of gas in the system remained nearly constant. But the actions of nervous drivers moved the gas from below ground tanks at the corner gas stations to above ground rolling storage [in vehicle gas tanks].

The fear of shortages was a self-fulfilling prophesy that created artificial, speculative demand that caused lines and price increases. OPEC and President Carter were blamed, but we did it to ourselves.

i was watching on some program, sometime back, an interview with some guy who wrote a book...i think it was the selling of america or something like that.

this guy was an insider and the revealing comments made me and i can imagine others watching, want to hang these politicians by their nuts. unbelievable. we elect these chaps, pay them and under the table, they're receiving millions of dollars in cash/kind in kickbacks. like yaughts (sp), off shore properties in bahamas and other places. just to do the lobbiests bidding.

the worst part was when he noted these criminals get repeatedly reelected like they're mr. nice guy. big smile, deep pockets and lies that glow in the dark.
