No Country for Old Men... probably the best movie ever made (Per ColombianoGringo, this may contain spoilers)

Yes the ending bothers you. However, this movie blends reality and an esoteric meaning of life so seamlessly that you will not realize what you have seen, until you see it for the second (or third or fourth or etc.) time. Hopefully by the last time you watch it you will understand. This movie speaks to you old and young Colombians, Mexicans, Dominicans, and US law enforcement types in a prima facie manner. However, the story is much deeper. I recommend it (whatever that is worth) for everyone here.

My wife and I have seen the movie. Acting is superb.

Speaking of the ending. Did he escape with the money or not. I assume the wife was killed.

We will need to watch it again to fully understand what happened at the ending.

I´ve already lent the book (by Cormac MaCarthy) to a couple of friends. I hope it keeps getting returned. Looking forward to the movie.

Not to spoil the movie too much, but I believe the last hotel room scene hints that he does escape with the money. However, on a different level I believe the movie is showing that having wealth (money, drugs, power, etc.) is fleeting and leads to ruin for humans (I do not believe "Sugar" was human - at least he did not represent anything human in my opinion).

Javier Bardem was one of the freakiest characters ever in that movie. Just his face could give somebody nightmares- his expression.

I must admit I was expecting much, after all it has a lot of hype going on. I love the Coen Bros work, and yes the acting is flawless, and it's always good when a slow paced film with not too much talking does so good, still couldn't help feeling a little meh at the end. Oldboy and Eternal Sunshine are still my top films.

Absolutely NOT the best movie ever, are you insane??

It wasn't that great. I saw in in Houston, and it seemed to me like "cinema verite".

ColombianoGringo says on Mar 19, 2008, 15:12:

I think I am going to pick it up tonight. It sounds good and I like Javier Bardem. Of course, his talent is better appreciated in Spanish films.

Goodfellas was the greatest movie ever made!!!!!!

Dude! As the English say, bad show! I was quoting my favorite scene from Goodfellas.

jajaj, yeah Pesce, my bad. Was there ever a single person that wasn't squirming in their seat during that scene?

Shouldn't it have been called "No Country for the Elderly"? I thought 'old man' was politically incorrect nowadays. Great movie though. Definitely one of the best of the year. So visually arresting. I love so many of the scenes, but the trucks in the desert scene was really a visual feast. I am definitely a Coen Bros. fan. I also loved Fargo. This one is definitely going to make my 'must buy on blu-ray' list. Cool it with the spoilers guys. There may be some people reading this thread who haven't seen it. This has been an unusually good year for films.

billyb says on Mar 20, 2008, 17:35:

Fargo was great also.

saw it last night. descent story, but not enough there to hold you. the acting was excellent and tommy lee jones' accent was almost spot on for deep texas. i have not heard some of those expressions for years as my grandparents use them and they (expressions/dichos) have all but died off in the big cities.

* anybody wanna discuss the particulars. shapeshifting is the only explanation that works with this movie. i have my opinions.....

I think calling it the greatest movie ever is a stretch, but I do agree that it was excellent.

The story was great and the acting was top-notch... Javier Bardem definitely deserved his Oscar.

The scene in the gas station where Bardem's character (Anton) made the attendent flip a coin for his life was better than any I've seen in a long time.
