If a woman in Colombia was married in the RC Church and the marriage was never registered with a notaria. She has been seperated for several years and husband does not have anything to do with children. What impact would this have on her getting a K1 visa?

Gator says on Mar 26, 2007, 06:57: jacintosbud... is correct if not recorded at a notary it is not recognized in Colombia BUT it is a legal marriage in the USA and elsewhere. Immigration will recognize that fact. Next BIG problem, the children will NOT be allowed to leave Colombia without the father's permission or a family court order-no exceptions. Mononoke28 says on Mar 26, 2007, 11:03: You would... ... have to be 100% sure that the marriage was not recorded at ANY notaría in Colombia. And as far as the children leaving the country, in Colombia you can get that permission no problem if you know what I mean. After all, this IS Colombia we're talking about, right? =D Diana 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

goin_south says on Mar 26, 2007, 12:20: Hey, I think Stateside is a pretty straight-forward guy, so why don't you tell him what you mean, instead of asking? That could be interpreted as making conflict. Although I think I know 'what you mean.' Why Not Colombia?..........Stay Tuned, for more.... utterly worthless, self-indulgent gobbets of nonsense. 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

Gator says on Mar 26, 2007, 13:28: Mononoke28 1. It can only be registered at a notary where the marriage took place(Married in Cali you can't register in say Cartagena.). Also remember there is a huge difference in registered and having the paper notarized. "Credidi pretio parvo emere et magno vendere tibi in animo fuisse!" . 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

Mononoke28 says on Mar 27, 2007, 14:52: Well... ... I know of some people who paid the notary under the table to notarize the permission slip signed by the father. Of course the father was no where to be found and he didn't care anyway (which is key), so the mother signed for him and the notary didn't have an issue with it. For a price, of course. ;) Diana 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

miamimike says on Apr 3, 2007, 14:12: A Married Lady From Bogota came to Miami many years ago and never divorced her Husband who remained in Bogota. They were married in Bogota in the Catholic Church. She came to Miami on a Tourist Visa and married twice(both times to cubans). A reletive who had it in for her reported her US Immigration with ALL times and Dates(her Colombian Husband's name, address, date and place, name of church and priest in Bogota where the marriage took place the--all the Fine Details. This Lady has had US Permenent residency for years but the fact is, she lied on her original application when she married the first cuban and from whom she received her permenent residency from. She is technically guilty of Bigamy as she never divorced her husband in Bogota, she still has a valid marriage with him. She is in a world of trouble as she married twice after her first legal marriage. She stands to have her Residency revoked and the US Government has perfectly legal grounds for revocation. I have observed people here who have lied who for this reason, had their residency revoked, permenet residency that is. Full US Citizenship is more difficult to revoke but it has been done as in the case of Nazi Death Camp Guard John Demyanjak(retired cleveland ohio auto plant worker)He had full US Citizenship for over 30 years at the time his citizenship was revoked and then he was deported back to Isreal to stand trial for his crimes against Humanity at the Treblina(sp)Death Camps in WW2. I have seen, while I worked in US Immigration at the Miami Krome Detention Center, several detainees who had their Permenent US Residency revoked for lies on their original application. Many think this can never happen to them as I thought also before my work stint at Krome. I found also many of my original ideas were incorrect. Many say "its OK to work here in Miami as a Tourist here on a Tourist Visa" You will never get caught they say. Not true at all, most who say this never worked in Immigration as I saw daily Miami Area tourists brought to Krome because they had no working papers(valid) Many times a jealous boyfriend, girlfriend, family member turned them into immigration-saw this 100 times if I saw it once. And Krome is NOT a place you want to spend ONE day in I will add,,,if someone must work here without papers, you must do it in Silence-do not tell anyone as many times those who you trusted will be the first to turn you in if the relationship goes sour,,,I would never advise someone to work this way as I saw the aftermath at Krome and the stressful situation for people who did this and how they ended up. One Penalty, probably a Lifetime exclusion from ever entering the US Leaglly for breaking US Immigration Law,,,Caveat Emptor,,, Avatar Legend: Bush "If any of you Reporters are wondering, it was a Size 10" 0 funny, 0 helpful. |
