from what i heard iberia is the most expensive. i take lufthansa out of vienna via frankfurt and caracas.

most people fly via US as far as i know...you just search any airlines that fly to any city in europe and then take a budget airline wherever you wanna go...if you have a credit card...

mariacvetanoski,

After Avianca and the BA, stopped flying to Bogota from London, I switched to the US, using Delta or Continental, best transfer airport I found was Atlanta.

I heard possibly Avianca would restart their London, Bogota route again which they stopped in 2000/1, but not seen any update on that, possibly delayed or cancelled due to the rise in oil prices.

BA doesn't fly to Lima or Santiago or Argentina. They only have DIRECT flights to London out of Mexico City and Sao Paulo.

From Europe to Colombia there are 3 airlines (Iberia, Avianca and Air Comet) from Madrid and Air France flies from Paris directly to Bogota. Alitalia and Lufthansa have flights via Caracas and then the usual airlines via USA.

Avianca was authorised last December to fly to London and Frankfurt 3 times/week but as other have said no more updates on that. http://www.eltiempo.com/archivo/documento/CMS-3844171

The Air France connection through Paris works pretty well to London. Coming back it's a tight connection because the Paris-BOG flight leaves early in the AM.

Easy, UK wants Colombians to either have a US visa or a Shengen one on top of the British one to enter the country. I suppose its a smart way to filter people.
When I travel to Colombia I always travel BA to Newark and then Continental to Bogota. Ill be damned if I ever have to travel through Miami or Madrid.

BA, code shares with Iberia, plus owns 10% of it, with possible plans to take over the airline.

They basically use that airline to cover South America.

at viajero123 - Is that true that you dont need a Schengen transit visa to fly via Madrid or Paris for the flights to the UK? My girlfriend has the UK visa but we were thinking we would have to apply for the Shengen too?? Also would she need a US visa to 'transit' US airports for a connecting flight to the UK?

She will still need a US visa to transit through a US airport.

bickerss,

I do seem to recall they said that on their website earlier in the year/end of last year, although i haven't seen a update on that.

I would be surprised if they bother for now, lets hope I am wrong.

Depart Long Haul from UK and you immediately pay a massive 40 quid departure tax. I always book out of Madrid because there is loads of competition and better deals. Then get to madrid however you can, easyjet will take you for GBP28, last time I went Ryanair to Valladolid for 1p then took the AVE to Madrid.

Check Air France, their flights MAD-CDG-BOG are often cheaper than from Paris let alone London. Although you do spend a good day and a half flying around.

Avianca is cheapest at the moment, and if you catch their late flight it means you have all day to get to Madrid.

Ctg Bound; I was chatting to a guy from the Brit Trade desk 2 weeks ago who said it was still being negotiated. I hope it does come through.

johnny2008,

You pay a departure tax (APD, Air Passenger Duty) to fly to Madrid as well, but its included in the price as all departure taxs are, wether the flight is internal UK/Eurozone or outside.

APD costs are £10 for economy class fights to Europe, £20 for business and first-class flights to Europe. £40 for economy and £80 for business and first-class long-haul flights.

There are lots of other taxs as well, which are included in the ticket price.

BUT if you want to save money your options are good, although come with more hassel.
