I´m telling you man, I wrote a while back about seeing one of their delivery vans in El Hueco. Somebody is just not getting it around here. And that won´t even be a problem here either. Makes one damn worried about Colombia.

Sorry, but no American is dumb enough to do it. It wouldn't play here in the USA. In Medellin??? Up on a freaking bulletin board.

In Colombia negro, negrita, is a term of endearment, I guess English speakers, will only see it risque.

I remember here a post about "Ice Cream", it was very controversial, but not for Colombians.

Feliz Navidad!

i used to have a 'hook up' and on the guy's voice message it said, 'no body here, ya just gonna have to call the nigger back' thus he.

i'm tellin ya, these jeans would be a hit here...not just in the hood, but probably everywhere.

Wow, nice, claiming that people who suggest that using the term "niggaz" is probably not such a good thing are OVERREACTING? You people are insane and likely light skinned. Also, I have to challenge this claim that in Colombia the term "negrita" is a term of endearment. I know, I know, Colombians are all - "But no, it´s cool to call someone, including adults, 'fatty,' or 'skinny' or 'black boy." As an Estadounidense, I don´t envy this social practice and think it does little to help develop as a society. Listen closely when a light skinned Colombian says it to a dark skinned Colombian - calling a full grown man "black boy." Does that really sound endearly respectful? Not in my book. I understand it´s somewhat the dominant Colombian way to not address cracks in the social fabric, but get over it lovers-of-the-status-quo. Wake up and welcome to 2008 people! You´re not helping. Why do dark skinned Colombians not nearly as frequently refer to light skinned Colombians as "blanquito?" Doesn´t that mean anything to the Defenders of Colombia´s "Endearing" Ways?

Actually a similar store has opened in Cartagena. I'm not sure who they paid off, but they have a huge billboard right on top of the Castillo de San Felipe. Word on the street is that our own Rhydewitdis is the owner, and Jack Jason was the model on the billboard. But those are just rumors I have not been able to confirm yet.

They've got some cool backpacks there, but I thought the sandals were overpriced.

Also, although that the origin of the name of this clothing company likely comes more from exposure to MTV´s presentation of the word, rather than it´s use by white (US) Americans as they hung black Americans from trees by the thousands (among countless other forms of race-based violence), this still does not excuse this horribly confused cultural appropriation.

This will likely piss a few people off, but I think this is also linked to the fact that Spanish can never be a language of equality. As long as there are doctores and doctoras (that is feminine and masculine titles), Spanish will always be a force perpetuating differences among the members of society.

Best thing about those jeans is it looks like they come pre-bloodstained. Think of all the pain and suffering that saves.

Maybe this company is one of those famous "humanitarian gestures" we hear so much about.

august says on Aug 15, 2008, 08:48:

Nice argument against personal accountability. Boo to that. In my book, it IS also the fault of the clothing company and the fat girl.

You know, someone left a pair of "Niggaz" sunglasses at my house a while ago.

I guess it's a Colombian empire.

I agree with August. I also don't think NaggazJeans would catch on in the U.S. They would be protested out of the Country. Believe me the creators of the Jeans co know what the word means and what it insinuates. The Co. may do well in Colombia but they have nixed the opp for the world market.

these things are nice to chat about privately in a secluded forum like PBH. it would not be so fun to talk about it the back in the USA - especially if the media was involved.

you are right, swinn - the name would never make it out of the cellar in the USA.
