LOL...I got this from another board. This guy thinks Paisas are too white and so far he has only been to Cali. Maybe if you hang around Poblado all day, you would get that impression.
"GENERALLY speaking, alttitude in Colombia has something to do with atttitude.
hence Bogota, at 2500m above the sea is considered fairly "cold", and not only in terms of the weather
Medellin at 1500M is the city of eternal spring.
and Cali at 1000M is the rumba (and salsa) capital of Colombia.
Medellin is considered to have better looking women, (this according to a white calena I talked to) but calenas have better bodies.
I prefer the racial mix HERE. More varied than pasty white and snobby Medellin.
and there is a hot woman/girl on EVERY block of the city. It´s incredible how after a while you kind of get used to it, and then when you get on the flighthome and see the ahemm.. "attractive" American flight attendants, not to mention Americans flying home or especially the ones at Miami, your head start to fucking hurt and you begin to remember how things "were" "

quindioman says on Apr 10, 2007, 04:32: Could be, although I have it from various sources that the Paisa thing really relates to all people from Viejo Antioquia in that the underlying common denominator is the accent...I'm from Armenia but everytime I open my mouth people ask me if I'm Paisa...I'll tell them I'm from Armenia and they'll just nod their head. Strictly speaking people from Armenia are know as Cuyabros...personally I have more of an affinity with Cali than with Medellin (bar the accent) and couldn't give a Castlemaine XXXX if I'm considered Paisa or not.

jaramillo says on Apr 10, 2007, 06:38: Old Caldas used to be part of Antioquia, and it was populated by paisas who emigrated there from towns like Sonsón, Rionegro, La Unión, etc. Caldas split between three small new provinces in the 60's, if I remember correctly: Quindio (Armenia), Risaralda (Pereira), and Caldas (Manizales). They all have paisa blood, but the people from Manizales think they are more paisa than the paisas! Sort of like Ulster Brits. I'm a Jaramillo Jaramillo, of the Jaramillos from Sonsón (although born in Medallo). I'm 110% Paisa. Pride doesn't even come into it. It is our very essence. Just came back from Medellin, and girls there don't seem to be getting uglier...

billyb says on Apr 10, 2007, 07:01: Jaramillo is correct... Viejo Caldas, which now is made up of the 3 departments he mentioned were populated during the mid to late 19th century in what was called the "colonization Antioqueña" by people from the towns Jaramillo named that were escaping the ongoing violence (shocker) there. Jup, QMan, you're a Paisa.

elmodefoque says on Apr 10, 2007, 07:50: I’m not putting a bad connotation on the word “cachaco” is just what we in the northern Caribbean coast call all our Colombian brothers living south of Monteria. Is too difficult to try to figure out who’s paisa, rolo, pastiso, etc. Vez a Barranquilla y te lo juro que TODOS pero TODOS te van a llamar cachaco. Mononoke28 says on Apr 10, 2007, 14:22: I guess you... ... really have to live there to get these titles. To a costeño anyone from the "interior" of the country is a cachaco. If you're from outside Bogotá anyone from there is a cachaco or rolo. If you're from the "zona cafetera" which includes Antioquia, Caldas, Risaralda and Quindío, then you're a paisa. Paisas are not just from Medellín but they are the ones who stand out the most. People from Pasto are Pastusos. People from Cali are Caleños. People from Chocó are chocoanos. Etc, etc, etc. Diana 0 funny, 0 helpful. |
