Newark Airport

As always because I left too late to book my ticket to Colombia i couldn't get a flight to Colombia with BA (my favourite) and the other flights with different airlines are also fully book, so what I have left is one via Newark Airport , I've never been in that airport, is it a difficult airport to navigate? is it very busy? I read from a member here that it was a a horrible airport.... can someone Enlightenment about this airport? :)))))

Do you have a choice now Kat....????? I already booked my Christmas ticket plus tickets thru August 30th..

Lessoned Learned...

I guess you would go from Newark then to JFK via Avianca or American via MIA or Continental/Copa via MIA or Houston which then gives two stops to Colombia..

Should not be so bad...If you do transfer to JFK for Avianca give some time.

My opinion: It will be an easy experience if you arrive on Continental and leave on Continental. If you have to change carriers and/or terminals, just follow the signs and make sure you head for the inter-terminal train and not the subway - you don't want to end up in Gotham City by mistake. Strange people live there, people like Morphus and Rubito and Elmo. ;-)

FYI, Newark is a Continental hub and the international area is spacious and new. When you return through Newark, you'll find the immigration and baggage areas far larger and more modern than Miami. There is also a fair amount of shopping and food areas if you find you've got a couple of hours to kill.

I think it's a decent airport, the Continental portion, anyway.

To clarify: I don't think the "subway" reaches Newark Intl Airport, I think it's actually the New Jersey Transit light rail system. Regardless, if your flight arrives EWR and departs EWR, you don't want to get on it.

thanks, panthdave, i was waiting for one of my kids to decided that is why i took so long but lesson learned, my husband is booking the Christmas tickets already.

Tinto, thanks all my flights are with continental, I will arrive to Newark Liberty International and on the way back the same

Ingles, BA stopped but they have a flight to Miami and Miami you change with AA but the luggage automatically go all the way through from London to Bogota, except on the way back. but it doesn't matter cuz on the way back I usually travel light :))))

I fly Copa out of MIA via Panama then off to Medellin.. I wish Copa/AeroRepublica/Continental would start having non stop out of MIA to Medellin..that would be nice I like Copa and Continental..

Don't like American or Avianca depart times out of Medellin to MIA way to early and Copa has 5Pm to Panama and then the nightcap to MIA>>>>

Have a safe trip Kat with family..

A travel tip: I've been flying Continental a lot recently and I think their in-flight movies suck. The good news is that before last trip I found their movie schedule online and could plan my flight better with work, a book or my own movie.

Here's their line up for July:

If you are flying in 737s, it looks like you'll get to enjoy "The Astronaut Farmer" and "My Dog Skip" ... twice!

I flew out of Newark airport last week with no issues but there are no direct flights to Colombia from Newark. However no airline will be fly you from Newark to JFK or La Guardia since these airports are so cloe to each other. It will probably be the miami route. Newark is definitely better since construction ended. I have heard negative stories about Newark but never experience any. I guess bad news travels more. There are no subways or light rails to newark. The airport has a monorail but is not connected to any other rail source.

If you can speak english, you can navigate easily in Newark.

Smile if you are a thinker!

Cali373: Continental flies non-stop from EWR to BOG on 737s. I am sure of it. I have been on the flight several times. Look at the Continental website.

I guess these aren't train cars in the picture and the train station sign doesn't really say "Newark International Airport." I realize the station is a offsite or at the perimeter, but it IS a train station accessed by the monorail (Air-Train).

Here's a little map that shows you the Air-Train (mono rail).

The airports will be extra busy in the summer but you're coming in around 1:30 and leaving at 3:30 (a slower period of the day). You should be fine with two hours.

I frequently fly from Newark, and it is an easy airport to navigate.

First, Continental DOES fly non-stop to Bogota from Newark. It is about a 5 hour flight and it beats the hell out of changing planes in Miami. If you are going to a city other than Bogota, you can book a flight on Orbitz. You will have to change planes in Bogota and take a connection on either Avianca or Aero Republica, but the rates are the same as if you were taking one airline. I did this several times and the cost was $500 to $540.

Continental also flys some routes that change planes in Houston.

There are 3 terminals. On the 2nd level, at the back of each terminal, you can catch a monarail that conects the 3 terminals. It if free and it runs every couple minutes.

mira cordoba, never mind all that, you wanna meet at the airport, i'm just 30 minutes from newark, acrross the river.
If Avianca, the oldest airline in south american chose the burro as colombia's national symbol, why can't pbh.
colombians are hard working, honest, noble and loyal people, so are burros.

I'll get there, when I get there!

Hey Cordoba, don’t be too disappointed when you step outside the airport, it stinks. New Jersey has this very unique smell, like rotten eggs, but I don’t believe is harmful.

Kat1 If i were to choose between MIA and Newark, Id go for Newark. Ive done both trips but I am bias as I completely despise MIA airport. Newark has shops if youve got some time to kill, you might have to walk a fair bit but it isnt not unpleasant. I think it also breaks down the trip more evenly. In regards to the luggage, they change it to the other carrier, you dont need to check luggage or anything of the sort.

Have a great time in Colombia!!!

I used to walk in there with my fishing rods, on my way to miami. Used to fly them once a month. them there was the good old days!
fishing and screwing, what a life.
Is not so bad now, drinking and screwing, but now i have to go all the way to colombia for that
