Shoot Cristal, remind me not to ask you a question.

Silvia maybe if you gave us more info you will get more responses. Only you can really answer that question.

Like do you have a job here?
Means of support?
Do you have family here?

I was referring to Medellin. By the way not all the girls in Medellin are drug addicts or alcoholics, maybe only crystal.

new york or medellin? RUV makes a good point, new york and medellin are just cities. It really depends on the specific surroundings. I grew up in the US and my cousins in Colombia, my two cousins that grew up in Medellin are not drug dealers, they are amiable educated people.

I would go to the place that has the best education available, which is New York. Medellin is the most beautiful colombian city to many of my friends and I am sure that has its advantages but New York is too good to pass up if the conditions are similar to Medellin.

A lot of variables though...

Silvia I don't know anything about your situation, but I think your child would have a lot more opportunities here in the States.

And Cristal wrote:"you wud be so but so stupit and ignorant to go to a 3rd world country"

THAT was eloquent. You have been a member here for less than two days; keep up that tone and you might not last another two.

Moving to Medellin from New York New York is a city that at times could face the same problems that Medellin could.

As far as raising a kid, I believe Colombian eduction up to high school is at times superior to the education in the US. If you would have the means to send your kids to a private school there, a lot more affordable than here in the US, you would for sure get a lot for your money when it comes to education.

This is a very difficult question to answer without more background like it was mentioned before. In a way, it all depends on what you can afford. If you are struggling in the US, it will be a lot harder in Medellin... if you are well off and money is not an issue, then it could be a great opportunity for your kids to grow up in a very warm loving environment.

I grew up in Colombia, until I was 16 and I am neither an alcoholic nor in a drug cartel or ever shot a gun... I have seen more drugs here in parties in the US than I ever saw in Colombia.

If you post more info I am sure people will try to help you out make an informed decision. Good luck.

We anonymous strangers on the Internet would need a lot more information about you and your situation before our advice would even rise to the level of "useless".

Disclaimer: any comment I make is inane and is not to be taken seriously, and is so patently ridiculous that no one should take it seriously, even as an insult.

NEW YORK / MEDELLIN Hi Silvia -

I am a Canadian guy, no dependents, so perhaps my opinion does not relate directly to your situation... however, I also lived 5.5 years in Manhattan, and understand how you can feel there.

I happen to love Medellin (spend a lot of time there, and in Costa Rica), and understand the good/bad there is there (like everywhere, including New York, Toronto, Hong Kong, etc etc etc)...

Are you Colombian (thinking of going back "home") ?
Do you have friends/family/work there which would draw you there?
Do you know the city well, to be able do make an educated decision about a potential move ??

These would definitely be factors; I just don't believe that there is a "yes, go for it" or "no, you are an idiot" answer...

If you want more opinion, feel free to contact me offline and I would be pleased to share my opinions/insights, for what they are worth... info at bizlatino.biz

God bless.

Excuse me for asking but are you not, Cristal, also a stranger to Silvia? And earlier you were busy asking her for her name and address?

YOU ARE SO WRONG Cristal,
1st of all just because a person lives here in the state doesn’t mean that they are not going to do drugs or drink.
i lived in Medellin for the most part of my child hood and I can guarantee you that i didn't try drugs at all, non of my friend did drugs. Actually it was until I moved here that I stared hanging out with people that did drugs. ( i no longer hang out with them)
2nd of all New York is not the greatest place for a kid to grow up. i lived their for about a year and i saw as many crimes as i saw when I lived in Medellin.
3rd of all learn how to spell and stop treating people with words like "stupid" do you even know her. is she your friend?
Silvia i have something to say to you about moving to Colombia just think of the opportunities that your daughter is going to have in Colombia and the opportunities that she is going to have here.
I went to jr high in Colombia and I had to go to a public school because all the privet "good school" you have to know someone, while here you can go to any school you want to go to.
I know this country is really lonely but think about your daughter future.
