new years in cartagena

i've never been to Cartagena but i'm thinking of taking my fiance there for New Years. Has anyone spent time there during New Year's?? What should i expect? My fiance is Colombian but has never been there either so this will be the first time for both of us. Also if anyone has any advice on hotels, restaurant, clubs, and sightseeing, i would appreciate it. As always, thanks for taking the time to help out.

i can tell you this:
it's supposed to be a great plan to spend new years in cartagena. most of the local colombian bogotá based celebrities move to cartagena in that time of year and many reporters do live feeds from the city. there are nice parties at the santa clara and santa teresa hotels, very classy and elegant and anyone can attend if you pay the ticket which should not be expensive to you.
you can also attend wonderful parties at the different plazas, also with tickets, like plaza de santodomingo or plaza de la aduana to greet the new years, they corral the plaza to give access only to the people paying for the ticket to enter, and there's good security in case you worry for that. there are the usual fireworks of course and everybody is very friendly and you'll meet people from all over colombia and the world.

Well Worth It But.... be SURE and lock in that hotel reservation. I assume you are in Colombia now or have you plane ticker(s) in had-if not hold on to that wallet.

Some good restaurants are:

La Olla Cartagenera, On San Martin and about 5th
Restaurante Bodegón de La Candelaria in the Old City
Restaurante La Vitrola, Old City
Restaurante Capilla del Mar on San Martin in the 8/900 block
Club de Pesca in an old fort, Fuerte San Sebastián del Pastelillo, in the Manga area
Club Náutico Cartagena also in the Manga area

I would have reservations at all of these places during this time of year
