new type of visa?

a freind of mine here in colombia told me recently that if if you are a U.S: citizen and can show that you have at least 25,000 in your bank(in the states) you can obtain a visa and cedula/residency here in col. I know a few of the diff. visas that one can apply for ,but i´m not familiar with this . Anyone have any further info thanks-

The USA Colombia Free Trade Agreement might add one The USA Colombia Free Trade Agreement might add a visa as it did when the Nafta Agreement was signed. I have not read the agreement yet.

Socio Visa I am trying to get a Socio Visa and it sounds very similar. I have a contact here that is helping me get it. But, she tells me it is for 2 years and I cannot leave the country for more than 2 months at a time. The $$-figure you have sounds right though. I had thought it was 1 year and renewable... now I'm wondering if I am getting the correct one. Most of the other visas only allow you to stay for 6 months out of the year. But, I'm not an expert.

Agree, Most Likely A... Rentista which falls under the TS(TEMPORAL ESPECIAL) which is the same class as a Pensionado. It is not really a new class.
It is granted to a foreigner who receives a permanently and regular monthly income that comes from out of the country. It must be equivalent to minimum 15 legal monthly salaries. The minimum monthly salary was increase January 1 to $408.000 pesos so that comes to $6.120.000 pesos a month or about $2.720 USD a month. The paperwork required is the same as for a Pensionado Visa but for some reason the government has tacked on and extra five months into the calculation. The Pensionado Visa requires you show only 10 time the monthly income instead of 15.
