El Callejon Bar
A large presence of Rastas in the vicinity supports the argument that this may well be Medellin’s best reggae venue. The spacious bar with open-air courtyard plays a good mix of both conscious roots classics and more modern pieces, while there is no attempt to cross-over into Ragga.
Indeed, the slow reggae rhythm doesn’t really support dancing – although presumably that changes with the occasional appearance of live reggae bands.
Parque los Tamarindos
Tamarindos is a water park that is popular with adults and kids alike. The wow factor is the park’s greenness and the stunning backdrop of emerald coloured mountains that glisten in the sunshine.
The park includes several large swimming pools of different shapes, sizes and depths, an artificial river with inflatable rings and a range of waterslides. The fastest waterslide is so fast that rather than emerging directly into a swimming pool – you exit the slide into some kind of giant roulette wheel – whizzing around until your velocity drops enough for you to descend towards the hole in the middle and plop out into the pool.
Food options are limited to menu of the day and it is prohibited to bring your own – a strange combination.
Ajiacos y Mondongos
Despite its humble setting in a small converted house, the rich and famous have frequented this restaurant, including the president himself, presumably for its excellent service and intimate atmosphere.
Ajiacos y Mondongos serves 3 typical Colombian dishes, namely, Ajiaco, Mondongo and Cazuela de frijoles. The restaurant is characterised by its small rooms with small tables and chairs and truth be told, relatively small portions of food.
The hieroglyphical scribbles on the walls are from guests dating back to 1991. But, before you grab your pen, ask yourself whether you are rich and famous first, and if you are not sure, you can always ask one of the attentive members of staff.
Many thanks,
