New law relating to import tax

I spoke to "Lawyer Co" aka: Esteban a couple of days ago. He tells me there will be a new tax law or rules relating to items brought as baggage into Colombia. I had a couple of questions relating to camera's, and computers. He will research and then make his post.

I have no idea, but I would doubt it. If I don't see a post by Esteban relating to the matter in a couple of days, I will give him a call. I would think the authorities would provide some advanced notice, but this may not be the case. I think the idea is to speed the process through the aduana at the airports, but he did mentioned $1,500 max value and document requirements.

my bet would be the airlines would post this as soon as it is available.....i wouldnt wait until Colombia posts notices.....it directly affects the airlines, so they would probably be posting it as soon as they recieve it and review it.....

Well your already allowed 1500.00 tax free for personal effects.. I brought a brand new LCD TV and had no problems but noticed Medellin Customs not so tough..In Miami I basically can get everything cheaper here in the streets of Miami so I bring many things down.unless its too big like Furniture..I go back and forth every two to three weeks work and buy things for my place down in Medellin..
I hope they will raise the amount that will be great..

I just received an email from Estan, but a few items are still unclear to me. The degree was created on June 21 of this year, and may or may not be in effect at this time. The max limit remains at $1,500, but remember to have all supporting receipts for items you bring into Colombia. Personal items are not included in the $1,500. (personal clothing, etc) Today is a holiday, but I will be contacting Esteban ASAP.

Esteban states:
The treasury’s secretary along with the DIAN created on june 21st of this year the degree 2287/07, where they changed the custom’s law with emphasis in the article 206.

Tinto: I think the form you are referring too is rather old. The rules will change as of June 2007 and the effective date is still unknown. They may in fact use the old form combined with new rules.
