Hola! I made it to Cali and have been here for two days. Guess I know everything about Cali now :-)
Seems the city is pretty much on vacation for the next couple of days while everyone celebrates Easter. My last taxi driver told me everything gets back to normal on Sunday.
I stayed a couple of nights in Hotel del Rio -- ended up there by mistake (long story) but suffice to say I wouldn't recommend it.
Now I've found Hostal Santa Rita and its pretty nice. I'll be here for a few days maybe more. If anyone wants to get together for a beer or a coffee drop me an email or post here. I think my email addy shows up, but I'm not familiar enough with this site to know for sure. My first post disappeared and I never saw it again...
I'm jazzed tonight, tomorrow I'm going for a bicycle ride with a group here in Cali. I think it'll be fun and its nice to meet people, even if my malo Espanol limits my conversation and understanding. These guys are pretty into riding, and they were talking about steep grades, so keeping up will be fun...
I'm considering getting a Spanish tutor, but may just wing it 'till it all comes together. I've tried Spanish language schools in the past and they help, but studying (sort of) for a week or two at time, just doesn't do it.
Hmmmmm.... Cali is different here than what I expected, but that's always the case with travel.
Suggestions for cool places and things to do here appreciated.
So far -- so good...
