New Colombian-American movie

There is a upcoming romantic comedy film to be released in the US soon. It was taped 70% in Bogotá and 30% in Miami.

The film presents a different face of the country, albeit it is a CHEESY romantic comedy.

I guess it's a good start to switch and balance the current overwhelming tide of Colombian film noir about the war and human desolation.

The following is the movie's web site:

http://gringowedding.com

This is the article published on EL TIEMPO today.

Yeah, I have some friends who worked on this movie. I was going to post about this.

It's supposed to come out in March 2006. Sounds like a funny idea. About time. One that will enhance some of the threads on this forum.

And by the way, after about 3 months of owning it, I finally watched El Carro the other night. Very good movie. I enjoyed the premise and the family dynamic.

Great to see other types of movies about Colombian life. Thumbs up from me!!!

THANKS ColomBuenazo I came here this afternoon to make a post about a great find and someone beat me to it. THANKS ColomBuenazo, most of us appreciate GOOD news about Colombia.

Below is a quote taken from the movie website www.gringowedding.com. Those interested in Colombia may enjoy hearing something positive and on the lighter side besides the normal crap you usually see in the news movies etc., I know I sure do.

""Gringo Wedding" is a romantic comedy set in modern times where technology has improved communications beyond our dreams, giving us cell phones, pagers, faxes, e-mails and much more. In spite of this, a lot of people are finding it harder and harder to meet the right person to connect to; someone to share their life with. This story deals with two such people living thousands of miles away, in two different continents, in two different cultures. They come together as destiny takes them on a joyful and eventful journey. "Gringo Wedding" is full of laughter and at the same time it is a thought-provoking story where we witness and discover the common values of love, friendship and follow their desire to be with someone who cares.

Rebecca Gonzalez is a management executive with a financial institution in Bogotá, Colombia. She is very attractive, sexy, highly educated, and self-motivated young woman in her late twenties.

Matt Goldman is in his mid thirties; a handsome, hardworking account executive with an advertising/production agency based in Miami, Florida. Though he is well liked by all his colleagues and friends, he feels that something is missing from his life.

In this movie full of laughter, twists and turns, Rebecca meets her match in the form of Matt. Against all odds they tie the knot. Their friends call it "Gringo Wedding"."

Best Wishes,
Bob

ANYTIME! We need more films that promote and balance the image of Colombia.

Are there any Film makers, cinematographers here?

This is good opening to seize the moment and start a good and profitable trend.

Colombian Love this morning my fiance told me he was speaking with a friend who lives in Israel about a colombian movies in Israel, and he mentioned about this movie. Actually is not a colombian movie but is about the weddding of a colombian girl. I will try to find it.
this is the info

Colombian Love
TITLE: Colombian Love
YEAR: 2004
DIR/PROD: Shay Kanot / Mosh Danon, Eilon Ratchkovski, Mirit Tuvi
COUNTRY: ISRAEL
LANGUAGE: Hebrew w/ English ST
TIME: 95 minutes
SOURCE: United King Films, Ramat Hasharon
TEXT: Cast: Mili Avital, Assi Cohen, Shmil Ben Ari, Nir Levi, Osnat Hakim, Einat Weitzman, I. Barnea, Lirit Balaban. "What's a wedding? It's like putting yourself in jail so you can sleep with the warden every night!"... Uri (Assi Cohen) and Tali (Mili Avital) are a young couple in love. At the wedding of her best friend, Tali discovers that the guys, and in particular Uri, partied with a stripper at the bachelor party. Tali throws Uri out of the house and he, fearing the loss of the love of his life, hurriedly proposes marriage. Uri and Tali announce to their families that they are getting married, and this releases all of the family madness. The wedding day arrives and it appears as if everything is going to be okay, but as soon as the ceremony is over, things go out of control. Pini (Shmil Ben Ari), the father of the happy groom, is offended by the bride and makes a crazy ultimatum. Now, Uri is in a terrible dilemma--should he remain faithful to his family or to his new wife. Tali must decide if she is willing to sacrifice her honor for the sake of love. In Colombian Love, the filmmakers tell the story of their own generation--a generation alienated and uncommitted, that no longer believes in anything and is just waiting for life to begin. Perhaps this is their way of repressing the surrounding madness into which they were born. This is a wild comedy about love so true that not even a wedding can destroy.

What amazes me is all the virtual hand-wringing that is being done over this "revelation" that maybe women can't have it all. (duhhhh.) And that choosing career over all else often means ending up with career and nothing else.

In the article (which was based on the book) by Maureen Dowd to which the above column refers, she says her mom knew the score but she and so many other women who are now in their 40s and 50s scoffed at such provincial notions. Now, long after it's too late, these women have come to realize that maybe their moms really DID know how to find and keep a husband.

Everything old is new again.

At least for the younger generation, the women are learning from the mistakes of their mothers, according to Ms. Dowd's column.

I liked the article..... But I don't think the title fits.

"Feminism's devolution from hoaxers to whores"

The title made me think that it was going to talk about how american women were going to attract men by actually dressing and acting sexy. It never touched on the subject which is a topic that needs to be covered badly.

I have been shocked at the comments that I have heard from americanas about the sexy dress of Colombianas. Some of them just don't get it. I actually heard one scold a latina about her dress and acused her of having low self esteem. She politely informed the americana that that is the way most women in her country dress.

The americana just looked puzzled.

Estoy de acuerdo In the article, Ms. Dowd spends a lot of time going into all that went wrong or at least went astray and only makes passing references to what is changing as a result.

With regard to attractiveness and age, I agree with GDL in that it's a management problem. Women who put their man towards the top of the priority list end up with their man. Women who put everything else ahead of their man end up with everything else. Being at the bottom of the priority list is very unattractive.
