Just saw your notice... sounds like a compelling documentary. I am going to record it on a timeshifting channel. Thank you.

Interesting The CBC's Colombia documentaries (Passionate Eye and Rough Cuts) seem to like to pick opposing angles to look at things from every so often.

- this one was "bad government night".
- 6 mos ago was "Colombian-gov't-official-fights-the-war-on-drugs night",
- 6 mos prior to that was "Ingrid-Betancourt-and-political-kidnapping-and-ransom-awareness night".

I wonder what would happen if they actually tried to cover several angles in one show... maybe they think that we can't handle it (it would be a long show).....

EXCELENT!!!! The best part was when the guy askhim about the security, and the the other one answers "That's the only thing Uribe can show", that's the perfect answer, in Colombia there is nothing done for real security, having a bunch of soldiers on the main roads is not a solution, punks down there don't want to see the reality and they just preffer to hide behind fake banners of "We will finish the guerrillas" and other lame useless lies.

Without having seen the documentary... I have to agree with adrimm. That would be interesting. You know, to actually try and represent the complexity of the country, instead of only one theme at a time.

If that's not done, then it's up to the viewer to pick up all the separate pieces one by one and figure it all out, which often gives mixed results.

Fenrry: Obviously there are many places where there is no "real security" here, and the government or more precisely the state is hardly innocent in all of this, but that's only one piece of a more complex puzzle, so to speak.

So the documentary, which BTW I would like to see myself sometime in order to properly judge it (beyond what its webpage states), may be "excellent" in highlighting that particular piece of the puzzle, but probably not much else.

For starters, a lot of people, from all sides, carry around "fake banners" and other "lame useless lies", not just the government. And a lot of people have also "risked their lives for their cause", not just leftist political militants (though their story is also something that should be told, evidently).

That's all part of the reality too.
