New classified site for Colombia which is free and Bilingual

I´ve just finished(well, almost) a new classified site(or sites) for Colombian cities. Rather than most Classified sites that cater for Colombia as a whole i decided to create one just for main Cities which is in Spanish and English.

What ever product or service, renting or selling you want to advertise, you can do so for free.

You can add as many as you like, also add pictures, documents & videos.

It still needs a bit of work on the design and i will be adding a few things to it in the future. I´ve tested it quite a lot but it seems to work ok but there might be a few teething problems, don´t be shy in letting me know about them, also the Spanish might be a bit dodgy in a few places.

Only 1 person would make a comment like that. Hi Mod, how´s tricks?

Site looks ok to me. Have you checked out the competition as there are a few other sites in Colombia trying to do this?

I'm sure this has been said a thousand times, but... PBH has turned to a peace of shit, largely because a few negative, twisted Gringos are allowed to undermine every post.

There is a difference between banter and just being negative because you are bored in-between visits to your favourite whore house.

Peter... why don't you just block IP addresses for known criminals... it’s such an obvious solution. Bring back the happiness and save this website? The entire website has become an embarrassment for any non-gringo psychopath living in Colombia.

you've got stiff competition with mercardo libre. someone told me that they were bought by ebay, same forum type anyway.

- flashes of shops around town that help people place their items online come to mind, kinda like ebay retail centers in the usa.

- try taking this to the comprevendors first for some initial inventory. i found a real nice mountain bike for just over $100 from one off of metro prado. it would have been alot easier to find it online....

my glass is getting shorter on whiskey, ice and water...

usher127, although I don't agree with the shmuck posting above you, I don't agree with the sweeping generalizations you present either. These people are an embarrassment to Colombia-loving "gringos" as well.

paulr, looks like a good start. Being biligual gives your site one advantage over MercadoLibre, right out of the shute.

Tejas said "- flashes of shops around town that help people place their items online come to mind, kinda like ebay retail centers in the usa." A good idea, and a MAP showing location of a shop or restaurant can be so helpful to the uninformed, and maybe the restaurant's menu?

I guess the mods were doing a good job sweeping up the hate, venom, and bullshit here the last couple weeks, but looks like it is sneaking back in.

paulr says on Feb 27, 2008, 06:26:

"Baltazaar" or Mod writes one sentence and you know exactly who is it, but yeah, it would be a lot easier to ban his IP add.

I never thought i would become competition for mercardo libre(a classified site works a little different anyway), that site will be the main site for buying and selling here.

My intension was to create a site with some elements that were missing in other Classified sites, the main points that seemed to be missing were bilingual & rather than have a site that caters for Colombia as a whole, cater for the City. When you ant to enter an add for your services or sell your product in your city, you don´t want to have the add for Colombia in general.
Anyway, these kinds of sites take quite a while to get going. Not going to sit on my hands and wait though, any ideas for websites that would would be popular here or something that is missing or could be improved? I´m starting a website business, but like everything here, it takes time.

You need to add a “Gringo busca chica" if you want to get some business from PBH posters.

Bravo, Presidente Uribe for the perfect operation!

Paulr,

I like it! I'm definitely using it. And BTW if you need help with translating anything let me know and I'll help you out. I work on translations all day long as part of my job so I'm used to it.

I could dedicate a whole site to "gringo busca chica" it would work the other way around(I´m scratching my head now thinking of a site for that).
Hi Mono, i do have someone helping me, i just need her to go through it with a fine toothcomb but thanks anyway. I tried to add in a translator but it just didn´t work right and to be honest, they are pretty bad.

It seems there are plenty of venues for old men to find women in Colombia, or maybe vice-versa(?).

Lostgringo says on Feb 29, 2008, 19:32:

Paulr good for you. I am in the Philippines trying to get help for some websites I want developed. Not an easy task trust me. Mononoke28 I sure could use your services later on. I am having a Poker site built with the ability for users to access the site in various languages. English, Spanish, Chinese, Korean, Japanese and maybe Tagalo (sp), Fillipino).

My g/f also has a few websites to promote her apartment she rents in Bogota. I have been doing allot of Search Engine Optimization (SEO), on them. Happy to say that they rank really well on Google and her business has picked up 200%. If you need a few ideas on SEO I may be able to help you. Also, you can use a team of SEO people here pretty cheap. It's really important (I am sure you know this already), that you have a good title tag. So, you may want to change your title tag re: Clasificados Colombiano to something like "Advertise with Colombian Classifieds Colombia and Clasificados Colombiano" or something similar. Google puts allot of weight on that title allot of English speaking people will likely search for the English terms.

Here is a thought. I have been helping my g/f allot and what I have found is most places that allow you to list your site to rent charge you a %. So, for me it is good to list with them and pay them say 10% of the rental fee if they can get us a customer. The potential client just pays the 10% down payment/deposit and we get the rest. For us it's a win win situation. And the same goes for the rental agency. If you are going to have people list on your site I would not charge them anything up front. And, to start with only charge them 1%. It sounds crazy but by doing this you would be able to see the traffic you are generating and how much you should be charging in the future. Also, you may be able to get allot of customers. I think one of your biggest competitors will be Craigslist.org.

But what none of these really have is a personal touch. For example, Peter on this site goes around and reviews places like hostels and posts that on his site. You can do the same. There is nothing like a personal touch. In the one section alone on renting you can compete with some big companies in Colombia and "be successful." 10 to 20% is allot of money to make when you can rent out 10 or 20 places each and ever day.

If I could speak good Spanish I would start a rental agency up in a New York Minute in Colombia. I would have it ranked #1 on Google and could make a huge profit. Unfortunately, I cannot speak very good Spanish. Damn lol.

Wanna partner up?

Anyway, just my humble opinion.

Thanks for your indulgence,

Your main competition for Spanish language listings is probably this site:
http://www.mundoanuncio.com/zona/colombia_12.html

It's in the top 100 traffic rankings in Colombia (cf alexa.com).

que nota!
