New Avianca service starts today.

Avianca's new direct flight from IAD Washington started today...to Bogota direct. leaves around 5:00 in the afternoon which allows for a lot of same day connections. Mostly UNITED it is one of their main hubs or anybody else who might get you there to Washington. DELTA codeshares with Avianca so that might be a good fare?

Yes, Spirit from Fort Lauderdale starting July 24th but the flight leaves at 10:30 AM so you might have an overnight stay from the midwest or west coast?

I do not think that Avianca would start this new service if they thought the free trade thing would not pass Congress.

Actually I'm from the midwest and I can catch the Spirit 10:30 departure for Cartagena by taking the 6AM from Ohare. You walk off the plane directly into the waiting area for the 10:30 flight. Works like a charm.

Are you sure that is not in fact a Delta flight? Here in Atlanta even though Avianca sells the ticket you will be on a Delta plane sitting next to someone who purchase their ticket from Delta.

It is a true Avianca flight not a Delta codeshare like in Atlanta. Rumor has it that Avianca may end the Delta codeshare to join Star Alliance with United, Air Canada, Lufthansa etc....who knows.

Yes you can make the Spirit flight to Bogota from Fort Lauderdale from the midwest if your flight leaves very early to make the 10:30 AM connection.

Bad news.

The Delta-Avianca codeshare agreement WAS terminated this month, June-2008. It's been filed and finalized in the US Dept. of Trans. You can't book Avianca flights through Delta anymore. And vice versa.

Since Avianca is now flying to Washington, Los Angeles and Frankfurt in the future than maybe Star Alliance with United, USAAIR and Lufthansa makes more sense for them?
