Need some help from people who know Las Palmas area of Medellin.

Looking to rent apartment in Las Palmas but not know the area very well. Is it a nice place to rent? Advantages? Disadvantages? I think there are a number of bars/nightclubs on the hills there but does anyone have an overall opinion of living
in Las Palmas? Safety, security, close to shops and markets, transportation in the area. How would you compare Las Palmas with Poblado? Thanks for your advice.

Well gogopher, there are plenty of apartment buildings in the Poblado area which border the Palmas area so you can get the best of both worlds. Now, if you're dead set on living in Las Palmas, I've seen some beautiful condos up there, not very close to anything, by Medellin standards, but by US standards you could say they're close enough to markets and shops,
but as Dennis Miller used to say, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

las palmas is the best colombia has to offer...anywhere. period. if you can pull it off, get one of the old small condos in the old urbinazations there. the towering condos, like everywhere, suck. just talk a day, walk around, pay a taxi and just look around. you're close in to the clubs on top...las palmas ave and below...poblado. but the quiet, your neighbors (old guard) and the ambience are just sublime...don't let someone/anyone talk you outta the quest. there's mini markets here and there, but you'll have to do el dorado or a market down in poblado, for big time shopping...exito is the furthest away but there's one, one block north of calle 10 on the east side of oriental...forget the name and i lived close in for years. i lived a long time in hotel intercontinental years ago in my beginning in colombia (80's) as it was a bastion of safety and i had no small measure of trepidation when i first started living in medallo. good luck an welcome to the family pm me if you have any particular questions. love to help. anyone who asks the right questions from the get go, deserves all the help they can get. douglas

bombero....be more specific...pm me with your question with more particulars. dwmte

Thanks friends. Las Palmas sounds nice, apartments seem like a better value there than Poblado. But its not far from Pablado, I think Industriales is the closest Metro.
