Hi marceytwo, I just came from Sand Andres, and yes the beaches and water are spectacular, but I found the island to be very poor and I don`t think there is much work.
Most important is that NOBODY can live in the island for more that six months per year.
This is new, One of my brothers has a cabin there and visits often but they check very carefully how long you stay..
This is what I know. You should research very carefully. Good luck

Hi,

I live in Cali. I've been In San Andres, and I think it is great only for vacations not for living. I agree with Lisa See, yes, indeed the beaches are beautiful, the people are great, but the island is too small, and yes it's poor. Personally, I can't stand being in San Andres more than a month; after the fisrt 5 days you have nothing new to see or to know.

Abotu Pereira, well, it is a big town (smaller than Cali), the weather is great (not too hot, not to cold), and people are nice. but I don't know how it is to live there. The only thing I can tell you is that I think it is a better option than San Andres.

So it is up to you... keep looking for the right place for you.

Best

Carol

I've been to San Andres too and it's a nice vacation but only for 4 or 5 days. My wife has a cousin in the army who has been stationed in San Andres for 3 years. We visited him there and he told us that he absolutely hates it. Said it's so boring and can't wait to get back to medellin.

Okay... Info on Pereira... I think Pereira is probably a great alternative to Cali or Medellin... It is not as big as either of those too, and for the most part the weather is pretty neutral.... People are really nice.... There are different things to do, depending on what it is you like to do.... It is like the central location for the coffee region... It is not overly priced on the housing side....

Couple websites for infomation on Pereira...

http://www.eldiario.com.co/

I'll be visiting Pereira in a couple weeks.... I also have family there, so if you have any specific questions, I'm sure that I can get an answer....

Also, I believe Arthur Brode is in Armenia, which is next to Pereira, another great alternative for a place to live... I'm sure he can definately provide more information...
