Does anyone know of a website that will help me identify a spider here in Bucaramanga? Or are any of you spider experts? I want to find out if it is a poisonous one or not. In the past month, I have found two of these things in our apartment and I am not so happy about it.
The spider is huge (IMO). I would say at least 4 inches across. Appears to be all black. The legs are thinker than most spiders I am familiar with but not very high (not like a tarantula). The body is about the size of a penny but of course thicker. I wish I had taken a picture but both times all I could think about was killing it. Once dead the legs curled up and made it appear much smaller. Any idea???? We have only been in our apartment for 2.5 months so I imagine I will see these things again. I know there were two and not the same one since I killed it both times. I just want to know if I should be worried or not.

May just here i.e. allergic reaction. Anyway any spider I see in my house I kill right away. No mercy for these critters. lampltr says on Mar 28, 2008, 05:14: I know what you are talking about, we located 2 in our house on seperate occasions, central CO. They can inflict a painful bite which can be fatal depending on the person. I know this monster that is meantioned almost had me climbing on a telephone pole the first time I saw one run across my wifes foot early one evening, this sucker was a bit larger than a baseball! We will not talk about the fangs jaja...Just talked with a co-worker who is from Colombia he says it is a Tarantulas, I told him bull shit, these are much larger and seem like a good watch dog jaja. Doing some research on the net, believe this is what it is (will get a more definitive answer); Brazilian wandering spider, or family of....http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brazilian_wandering_spider

adrienne79 says on Mar 28, 2008, 11:14: Thanks everyone. I still have not identifiesd it by looking at pictures but lampltr definitly has me scared. Hahaha! I really hope you are wrong but have a feeling you do know the one I am talking about. I had a hard tome sleeping last night. I just hope these things can not climb. Both times it was in the middle of the floor.

adrienne79 says on Mar 28, 2008, 11:33: If we were not renting I would do it in a second but due to the design of the windows, it isn´t even possible without removing the exsisiting window/door. For now Jorge will just have to take care of me and keep these things away from me. Hehehe!

adrienne79 says on Mar 28, 2008, 14:30: thanks sloop but this spider was not hairy looking as far as we could tell. My father in law got a beif description today and told us it is nothing to worry about. I'm still scared though. Hopefully this will get out of my mind soon.

lampltr says on Mar 28, 2008, 20:29: adrienne, the foto's are magnified so the hair stands out, but when one (Research shows 400 species of this family of spider), is moving you cannot tell. Is the closest I can find so far to what you were describing, and the region is correct to locate one...you now have to physically catch a live one to post a foto. Now I can picture you male PBH' ers running around the house naked chasing one of these spiders trying to poke at one to get bit (Don't forget the movie Jackass with the snake jaja).... The men get erections, wonder what happens to women? Jonas, she buys a cat and it happens to be a male, she will be able to tell when the cat has been bitten, it will be like a dog trying to dry hump ones leg while watching television or will attack guests jaja.

adrienne79 says on Mar 29, 2008, 06:21: Well, I have yet to see one of these things move. Both time it was just out in the middle of the floor without any movement what so ever. Made it easy for us to get a dustpan and smash it from the top. I think next time I should be able to get a picture easy enough unless it happens to be next to my camera. In that case, I don't think I will be grabbing the camera.
