I have spent many weeks learning about purchasing property and because of my limited funds, I cannot afford to make any mistakes. A real estate person in Medellin recommended that I use a company called ALIANZA VALORES, to transfer money from the U.S. to Colombia. I was thinking of doing something different, using a bank to bank transfer with a U.S. bank, but if this is better I might change my approach.
I have never heard of a company called Alianza Valores and the only thing I know is that they are a finance company.
Any feedback would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

rmykita says on Nov 21, 2006, 15:57: Alianza Valores... is Charles Schwab, but less prestigious. A bank transfer, to a Colombian bank, will give you a good interest rate and there is NO Comission on the Colombian end. Many U.S. Banks (I have an Ameritrade Brokerage account) allow free wires... Translations - NO COMMISSION to wire from a brokerage account to a Colombian bank account. Problem is, you must have one - otherwise you must go to a Brokerage Firm like Alianza Valores and pay a commission (wish I knew how much) to transfer the funds. Western Union is outrageous, caring cash is worse, these are your options...
