I would like to know.... How many hours are we talking about here? How many days a week? and what about resources to teach with? Will your offer still be open in say about 4 to six months? What about accomodation? What is standard cost for accomodation in Bogota? Will the work be regular? Etc.

English Classes - More Info We are probably talking about 10 hours a week each for 3 students at the beginning, which could be say 3 days a week.

Resources to teach with will be provided, and I would certainly hope that not only would the offer still be open in 4-6 months, but that the business will have grown even more by then.

As for the regularity, may not be that many hours, but should be regular (2 evenings and 1 morning a week, say). Obviously hope to increase as time goes on.

Accommodation won´t be provided, but could help as a guide (as can many people on this site). I would say you are looking at $400.000 pesos a month for a room in a shared flat in a decent area.

Hope this helps.

or, as an alternative if you are a native English speaker, you could place an ad and get your own students, but be paid more like 40,000 per hour

Where can i post ads to offer private English lessons? I´ve also heard that private lessons offer much more. I am a native English speaker living in Bogota and I´d like to start giving classes. Can you tell me where I can place some ads?

megustamuchisimo says on Jun 26, 2007, 06:34:

Go to gyms, such as AP (Athletic People) and Body Tech. Also, Carullas and other shops in upscale neighborhoods. Or, try El Tiempo. Place your ad in English if you want to get students who already have a moderate level...

Beware of Individuals illegaly brokering English classes from a Hostal. They just set up a web page faking to be a legit institute, they can take off at any time taking your money and leaving you screwed up. I recommend to apply in a brick and mortar English Academy such as Berlitz, British Council, etc make sure that they have CAMARA DE COMERCIO !! or ask for CAMARA DE COMERCIO certificates.

Is this the way you hire teachers? This does not sound like a very professional way to hire a person that will be working with youngsters.

It DOES sound bogus|

Come on guys! What´s up? This is a genuine, and good, opportunity. Did I miss something?

CaritadeAngel says:

Yes, you did miss something.
Experienced teachers have seen a lot of life.

In particular, they've all seen

(1) The magic disappearing contract
(2) The magic disappearing salary
(3) The sleazy sex-pest boss (the case of all the women and some of the men).
(4) The magic disappearing-reappearing employment visa

etc etc

They need more information, for example, who are you, what's the pay, the class sizes, the textbooks, holidays, insurance, and what kind of person you are looking for?

A company website and an email address that goes with it also lends credibility, and you should also post your Cert. of Registration with the Camera de Comercio. Do this, and you may get a more favourable response.

In the world of ESL teaching, there are some extremely unscrupulous employers out there. Your post is very short on detail, and it makes it difficult for teachers to take you seriously. Even if you do get a response you should be prepared for a lot of questions.

Cheers

Carita
