Need anything?

There's always some little thing I am missing or need or wish for . . . but I can't find it here in Bogota!

So . . .

Next Tuesday or Wednesday I am going to Washington, D.C. I'll be back in Bogota on Sunday or Monday.

Does anyone need anything taken to or brought back from D.C.?

This is the kind of thing that should be happening on here. I get so tired of all of the whining and shit. Yes...there are some things I would love to have that I miss. Copenhagen long cut, a whole roll. Lowrys seasoned salt and seasoned pepper, lemon pepper seasoning, Mcormick spicy montreal seasoning. Beef jerky...Ranch dressing...if you are serious let me know and I can give you the money before you go. docbaker at live.com

Speaking of things you can,t find or (difficult to find) in colombia reminds me that my wife (colombian) was so impressed with a potatoe masher she brought a few to colombia with her last trip....tough to find and good to have if you like mashed spuds..

What a gracious offer. If I were in Bogotá, I‘d certainly ask for Baltimore's Old Bay sea seafood seasoning.

I know one thing I will never find there: Splenda, that is why I am taking a month supply with me.

carolva77: Actually, I found Splenda, Equal (my favorite), Sweet-n-Low and various other (Colombian-type) "zero-cal" sweetners here in Barranquilla at a supermarket called CARREFOUR (Cada vez mas Chevere...don't ask). You just have to look. I also found Lawry's Seasoned Salt, A-1 and Heinz Steak Sauce, Ranch, Cesar, Dijon/Honey Mustard, Italian Vinegarette dressings at a little specialty market here too. There's also a store here called "FedCo" which carries ALOT of American products. You have to pay a million times more...but to me...worth it (I just don't have the patience to wait for family and friends to send it to me)...I crave things from the US...ALL the time!

When I was in BOG I was able to find "whipped-cream"...you know, the kind in the spray can. I can't seem to find it here in Barranquilla. Also, McDonald's burgers and fries here (Barranquilla) are definitely on the money (am I wrong?)...I eat NO other burgers here...and of course, who can beat them fries...seems they don't lose their taste any part of the world...God bless Ronald! I didn't get a chance to eat at KFC when I was BOG, and haven't seen one here...twmcm, can you please bring me a bucket of the Colonel's original recipe on your way to BOG? I am soooooo craving that famous gravy on them 'mashed potatoes! I will reward you handsomely!!! jejeje Thank you for offering, that was an awesome gesture! GBY

carolva: Actually, MY favorite burgers in the US are In-n-Out burgers (double/double with grilled onions and a glass of ice-cold green tea). I eat McDonald's burgers HERE because the taste "seems" authentic enough for me to bring back some ol' reminiscing feelings from back in the US (you know, like the thread began: There's always some little thing I am missing or need or wish for...).

El Corral, huh? I'll humor you on this, first chance I get! ;) Thanks!

BTW: please excuse my ignorance, you really AREN'T Colombian, right? Your profile says you were born and live in Afghanistan; you also have no listings of the places you have traveled...HAVE you ever been to the US and indulged in their food? J/C

If you could just combine In-n-out burgers with mickey D fries, you'd have the best of both worlds.

twmcm: "x-nay" on the KFC bucket order! I went out last night (first time out all week, from that miserable stomach-bout). Had to go get a B-day present and went shopping at the "Buena Vista Shopping Center" here in 'quilla and "'lo and behold"... what do I find at the food court??? The ONLY KFC restaurant here (I asked)! I couldn't believe it...ordered a 5-piece combo (original recipe) and WAS sadly disappointed! The gravy was definitely NOT the same taste as I remember it...and the Colonel's multi-million-dollar secret recipe (patented ingredients/spices) also lacked (somewhat) in flavor. My guess..."no aguanta" due to the weakening of the USD...how could they do this to me??? The friend who was with me, actually gave the Colonel rave-reviews...after eating at every imaginable "pollo" joint in 'quilla (uno, PikoRiko, KokoRiko, PuroPollo, ComePollo, Pollos Arana, etc), he commented that KFC had a very "distinct" taste to it...and liked it, ALOT...we ordered more!

billyb: I hate you! (jejeje...J/K...only jealous!!!)

carolva: "tranquis, paisana!" El Corral "here I come" y te dare un brindis!!! :)

Lisa Zee: I also use a sweetner called "Dulcyl Stevia Natural" which "es una agradable formulacion a base de Stevia, un producto natural extraido de las hojas de stevia. Que es 300 veces mas dulce que el azucar." I sprinkle it on all my fruit salads y jugos! You can find packs of stivia here in just about any grocery store. This is a far better product because is it all natural (the main ingredient in Equal is Aspartame...Sucralose, the high intensity sweetener used in the SPLENDA® Products is not natural. It is a no calorie sweetener that is made from a process that starts with sugar. Although sucralose has a structure like sugar and a sugar-like taste, it is not natural. The advertising and packaging for SPLENDA® Products or Equal do not represent the product as “natural")...
