My 'maybe future' girlfriend to UK

I am planning to take my 'maybe future' girlfriend (whom I met while I was in Cali) to visit UK in the summer if we get on very well each other.

What sort of rules will she be able to travel to UK? VISA, in what? How does it work? Will they accept?

Any help will be grateful

its hard now for them, before they did not need one ,now she will have to show a job here ,money in the bank ,a home or some thing that shows she will return, unless they really feel now she will return they will not grant one.

Off-topic Jumbo, but is your "maybe lady" deaf too, and you sign, or does she speak english and you lip-read. Just curious.

As ujays says, not a hope in hell, unless she has good paying job and money in her account.Children and house owner help, but unless she can support herself they will not entertain a visa, even if you write a letter of invitation and offer to pay everything.Somebody in the UK told me that a new 1,000 bond rule can apply for border cases......not sure about that..perhaps somebody has more info

one advice: the worst thing she could possibly say at the embassy is that she is going to visit her novio. This tells the embassy that she has the least motivation to return to Colombia. So you would have to find some other reason for the letter of invitation. just my 2 pence

I know you are talking about GB and not the US: but if GB is anything like the US - as far as immigration - NEVER, I repeat, NEVER lie to them. You will be found out and your "maybe" sort of girlfriend will probably be banned from ever entering. I am not disagreeing with Jonas; admitting to having a love interest lowers the odds considerably for a visa: but lying about having a special friend, love interest will only get the girl banned from entry ... ever.

Robert Jorge......I have never lie to any Embassy and never will........I will bring her to UK when she becomes my girlfriend (if). I am not going to bring her to UK just as a friend!!!

If it is other reason than as a 'novio', I will be thinking of a reason. .........

jumbo your gf must have a job or own a house or be enrolled at university and have money in her bank account. In addition, she will probably need a US visa or a Shengen one as there are no direct flights to the UK and she will have to do immigration while connecting.

Not necessary to go to UK via USA. There is a Madrid route as well with Iberia.

She has a job already ..........

Cerealkiller says on Feb 23, 2008, 09:33:

well then go for the schengen transit visa. She will need a transit visa no matter what. In regards to the job, as long as her employer says she is going for holidays and will have her job once she returns, all is good.

Isn't Air France flying Paris-Bogotá any longer? It used to be a good alternative, but of course she'll still need Schengen transit.

Desideria..I would prefer her to go on the Madrid route rather than the Paris route, because she speaks Spanishwhich will be much easier for her

Landing in France will still need visa, and I tell you now France is even harder for a Colombian to get a visa for than England.
A little story how I know,

Xmas eve in the UK 6pm ,I got the Colombian mother in law over for Xmas ,
Had a phone call from Germany ,my Colombian sister in law my wife's sister ,just had a bad car smash in a really bad way,no way could we get a flight ,so got in the car drove to Dover got the ferry over to France, its now the early hours of Xmas morning,
The mother in law no visa to enter France ,tried talking to them ,showed them the sister was in hospital ,told them we will be in France less then the 10 miles drive out of it to get to Germany, not one bit of compassion nothing ,they put us back on the boat ,back in Dover we then got the next boat over to Belgium ,she never needed visa for there, then drove into Germany.

Sister recovered after 6 weeks in hospital.

So if you cant get visa for England ,Spain is the easy way for a Colombian to get into EEC,once in Spain you know you can then go any where in Europe without any checks, even then drive in to France,
Which is just what I did when I bought the mother in law home.

and use easy jet you can get to Madrid on offer of 19 pounds plus the tax ,cheap as English chips .

jajaja! What is the difference between 'maybe future' girlfriend and "girlfriend"? Are there commitment issues here? Don't bother bringing her to the UK until after marriage. Spend your money visiting her in Colombia until you know her real character. Many foreigners have gone down heartbreak Hwy., in which you are headed, and have learned the hard way.

i tell you some thing else i was upset about ,when we went to gatwich airport pick up the mother in law, there we were waiting for her to come out ,wife excited about seeing her mother, she never came out ,made a few checks ,turned out customs ,had held her back ,she cant speak English ,these buggers cant speak spainish to her , i hit the roof they called the police to me,you know the bastards had took her in and given her a full strip search ,a 60 year old woman ,just landed in the uk for the 1st time ,her very 1st time on a plane as well, and we in the uk did this.

My girlfriend has been given the UK visa a few times but the requirements are pretty stringent. A couple of sponsors in Colombia, about 6 months of bank statements from Colombia, a good enough reason to return to Colombia, a letter of invitation from the Uk.

Check the Consulate website, all the details are there.

To get a tourist visa to enter the UK it's not as difficult as the USA one, here it's quite easy actually.

The issue of the Visa depend very much on her and/or your personal circumstances. If your Colombian girlfriend has a good job in Colombia she probable has no issues of getting a visa, if not it will involve a sponsering from your side.
6 months of bank statements, work, proof of suitable accomodation. One advice please do not lie on the application. A lot of applications get declined but a lot of decisions get overturned in appeals, if she has lied on her application the appeal might be difficult.

Jumbo, I was recently in a situation like yours.
I met my girlfriend ( now wife ) in the UK - she is from Bogota and was visiting her sister who is married to my mate. My mate had to go out to Bogota and visit the Embassy with her and also prove he had funds to support her ( so she would not be claiming benefits etc ) and also state that the visit was purely cultural and not for money - she was granted 6 month visit.
She flew in via Air Canada - had to get a transit visa which they granted with no problems.
You can also fly via Madrid and I heard recently that Iberia air will soon be flying direct from Bogota to London so that will be good ( if not a bit cramped! ).
Best of luck and let me know if you need any more advice - we eventually got married in Bogota ( with all that goes with that ) so everything is possible!
