640x480 is a good place to start

(usually called transforming ... at least it is in GIMP.org ... free and very able program for manipulation of pictures runs on both windows and linux).

What's actual size of the pictures in general ??

gallery click on create content (in top left account area)
click on image in the list that appears
in the submit image page enter a title (mandatory)
browse for the image on your computer
add a description if you want to
have Personal enabled if you want the image to appear in your account
hit Submit to post it

Repeat for more images ... I hope this works for you

James, you can upload the pic to your own FTP space.... Most ISPs provide some sort of FTP space. So if you were using Comcast Internet, yours would be:
http://home.comcast.net/~jamesvh/mypic.jpg

Or if you were using AOL, it would be;
http://members.aol.com/jamesvh/mypic.jpg

Then just tag the image, and we all can see it. The file name should all be lower case.

The image can be made small with Paint (Reduce its size); when its 20-50k it should work anywhere. (for the benefit of dial-up folk)

As for pic size, there are plenty of free tools available to reduce a scanned pic to a size that should be accepted here.
