My First Trip to Colombia Coastal Road Trip Plan

I need to know if this plan is feasible and safe(ish) costings based on 2 people in usd.

If you dont have time to give reasons yes or no answer will be great also.

depart bcmanga 26th one way ticket (35 each)6am arrive cartegna 2pm check in hotel pietro (40 each per day x 2 days)hotel go to beach, town beach, town, check out 28th. collect hire car 16.00 hertz (32.50 each per day x 3 days) in the early afternoon travel to barranquilla, arrive 7pm chill out hotelgenova (25 each per day x 2 days) beach town beach town, check out 30th. 12 noon travel to santa martha stay 11 days at sun city hotel8165 ( 11 each per day x 11)drop off hire car at 16.00 get bus home january 10th to bcmanga one way ticket (35 each) around midday.

I don't see what the point is in hiring a car. I think you'd save yourself a bit of stress and money if you just took buses/taxis around Barranquilla and Santa Marta. There is public transport to most places, including the Parque Tayrona. Anyway, that's just me.

I think the routes you mention are usually reasonably safe. There's certainly a lot of traffic on them all the time!

Bus The bus from Santa Marta to Barranquilla is only 15,000 pesos so it is the best buy and fills up fast as a result. The drivers dont mess around either they get you there quickly. They go around slow moving traffic. You can even watch TV on the bus but I found watching the driving to be far more interesting and exciting or in some cases scary.

My wife and I made the bus trip... ...several years ago. We are glad we did for we were able to see sites we couldn't in any other way. For example, I have never seen so many pink flamencos.

Even then however, we were nervous about the safety. The bus stations are particularly uncomfortable locations. I would thoroughly check it out now before attempting the bus trip.

What ever you decide be careful and don't give papaya.
