RE: Why the Medellin Metro won't save Colombia A friend in the US was surprised to learn that a COlombian city of < 3 mil has an ultra modern metro, while our comparably sized city doesn't even have a decent bus service.

I took the sparkling clean Metro for the first time last week while going to the Parque de Aguas just outside of Medellin. I went from one of the stations farthest norht ( the poor neighborhood of Belen ) to the last station farthest south...and we stopped at all major neighborhoods, many of which are very poor.

Its much nicer and safer than Metro/subways I have taken in Chicago (where I was muggeded) and London ( which smells of urine ).

The financing, like much of Medellin's huge industrial growth over the last 20 years, probably came from the noses of Americans.

RE: Why the Medellin Metro won't save Colombia Subways? Are you nuts? The FARC has enough shit to blow up in Colombia and you want to give them Subways. Hello.............

RE: Why the Medellin Metro won't save Colombia Uhhh..Yea..we are skipping a few steps here on the road to industrial evolution. Just a skooch dangerous for a subway there, Hawkings.

Interestingly enough, the first parallel I came to when I read this was Los Angeles. A tax was passed long ago to fund such a system, is still in place, but no subway. Again, I question how safe these are anyway.

Let's wait for bullet-proof, flying cars for LA and for Bogota'. Cool?

When I was in Bogota, the people I stayed with said they saw no reason why Medellin needed a metro. Colombia's cities already have pretty good transporatation and especially in the industrialized city of medellin. They thought that some politicians got kick backs because the people of Medellin did not really benefit from it. I did not need the metro to get around Medellin. In the downtown area I just took taxis and since I traveled with two other persons, the costs were about the same. An uncle in Cali told me there was planning for a metro there but Calenos were not up for it and now it has changed to planning of a tran-millenium bus system like in bogota.

RE: Why the Medellin Metro won't save Colombia How backward the country is compared to the civilized world? Would this be the same "civilized" world that is currently so nicely taking over the one of the weakest regimes in the world and killing folks over in the middle east like they're nothing? Or is this the civilized world that currently has the highest incarceration rates in the world and also still imposes the death penalty. Of course, in a civilized way disproportionately on "minorities" like me (Colombian-American). By the way, transportation in the civilized city of Los Angeles sucks. Metro here is totally corrupt.

I think Sep would be more likely as they need to send it, and the Embassy needs to send the Packets 3&4 so it'll be just a little bit longer left to go.

I'm interested in knowing how long it took all together between sending it all off and getting it approved, and from which Service Center. I'm still waiting for my wife/stepdaughter to be processed.

Thanks,
Dan

It's been some time, I filed my pakage on 12/27/04 it went to the NVC center in New Hampshire, my petition was aproved on 02/01/05 I was then asked to send in payment of 380.00 for each petition on 03/18/05 they posted my payment on 04/28/05, after I was then sent my afidavit of suport along with my Biografic forms ( packet 3 ) they were recived on 05/02/02 but were not reviewed by the NVC until 06/01/05, my wifes case was completed by the NVC on 06/14/05 but my stepson case had an error and I had to resubmit ,that cost me 3 weeks,so double check your forms before you turn them in.They finaly completed both cases on 07/05/05 and are now being sent to Bogota, I have been reading on this website that if your case is completed before the 20th of the month , most likely your interview should be set up for the following month.
