Hello to all. I am headed to Cartagena to visit my GF next month. I have an immigration abogada here in the states who thinks we would have better luck with a fiance visa rather than a visitors visa. We have no plans to marry for at least two years. Any comments ideas would be appreciated.

Texas and California are the two slowest regions in processing paperwork. Vermont is the fastest at about 30 to 45 day approval. If you intend to do the fiance visa, depending on where you live, start the procees about 6 months before you intend to bring her to the states if you live in the Vermont region. I filed for the visa in the california region and it took about 1 year to approve, schedule interview and grant the visa. If you go to cartagena with your girl, have plenty of photos taken of you and her in familiar places in Colombia because the case worker at the embassy in Bogota will ask to see them as proof of a genuine and sincere relationship. Good luck

utopiacowboy says on Jan 24, 2005, 08:50: Two years? What is she going to be doing in the meantime? I would never leave a woman on her own in another country for 2 years and expect that she's going to wait for me. Things happen. Disclaimer: any comment I make is inane and is not to be taken seriously, and is so patently ridiculous that no one should take it seriously, even as an insult. 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

lpdiver says on Jan 25, 2005, 15:15: Apply for the tourist visa And see what hapens? If you aren't marrying for two years I see no other option. Of cours you could apply for the K-1 and not get married. It is good for ONE entry lasting up to 90 days only. A lot of time, money, and trouble if you ask me. "cook some rice!" 0 funny, 0 helpful. |
