MUST SEE's in BOGOTA?

Hi, my countdown has begun, I will be in Bogota from September 20th for 7 days. Any last minute "must see" suggestions, I've been to all the links. I think I will be going to Monserrate the first day and Museo de Botero. Any must sees from true Colombianos ;)?

If you like museums many people say the Museo del Oro is a must see. I also recommend the Museo Nacional and the Jardín Botánico.

Check out the Salt Cathedral in Zipaquira, the Plaza Bolivar and the surrounding historic downtown, the Gold Museum, the interactive science museum Maloka, and the great nightlife in the Zona G by the Andino Mall.

Taking advise from true Colombianos might land you in Ciudad Bolivar.

I love museums, but my husband gets a little impatient. I have to keep a limit on them...;) So definitely going to see Botero. The Salt Cathedral and Museo de Oro, I don't know which he would enjoy more? any advice?
There aren't any big culture shows/events at the end of September? I've been through the calendars on a few websites, seem we're arriving right after the jazz festival.....

Actually a true Colombiano will send you to la Candelaria, maybe because we think many foreigners specially from Europe or the USA like the historical part of the city rather than fancy shopping centers.

Just of the plane go to the last day of Feria del Hogar.

Other than that there are too many activities to do and places to go.

Maybe a Colombiana will send him to la Candelaria but some of my Colombiano friends would send him to Ciudad Bolivar as a joke so he can see the "real Colombia."

What's the best way to get around? I know in Peru you have to always argue with taxi drivers on price, but they're the best way. What's best in Bogota?

Orphanage donation box,

Those are not a must see but a voluntary decision to take part of each one of the activities.

I'll be in Bogota around the same time as you! I hope you have a blast I know I will. Anyway go see the Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá, its is not actually in Bogotá but its really cool. Also if you can go see the Tequendama Falls and the beautiful pink hotel by it. You will need a car to see these things....I hope you can check them out if not now then one day.

Personally, I second kat1's recommendation of the Botanical Gardens (Jardín Botánico) - they are immaculately maintained and very pretty. They are probably my single favourite "tourist destination" in Bogotá.

I like Sopo Parque Jaime Duque about 30-45min outside Bogota via bus and I thought the Salt Cathedral of Zipaquira sucked, it is a BS hole in the ground made around 1992 wtf who cares if you want to see a hole in the earth with a cement cross go for it.

Just because you have been to Colombia, that does NOT mean that you are anywhere near an expert on the place. Sorry. Truth hurts.

I was up at Monserrate in May for 4 hours and came down with sunburn on my face. Well worth the trip up the Tram ..If you want to have lunch There are at least a dozen open air resturants all the way around back past the shops. The view is amazing if you catch it on a clear day like I did. But plan on spending at least a few hours there if you want to see all the statues on the walkway that wraps around the east side. I will be going back there next weekend to shoot more photos..Monserrate and the Gold museum can be done in the same day as they are in the same area.

try and visit monserrate at night though. The views of the city are spectacular and you can have a romantic dinner for two at Casa San Isidro, reservations used to be a must but I don't know if that is still the case.

The Donacion Botero is probably one of the better small art museums in the world - and the price can't be beat (free!). The museum includes not just Boteros but works by numerous other great painters that he donated. A nice little survey of late 19th/20th century art. Right next door to the Casa de la Moneda which is also pretty interesting if you like art (mostly Colombian) and money! Also free.
