buggy,

Hence why I say: "Lets hope its true."

bamacellist says on Mar 7, 2008, 10:01:

Does this prove it was not gratuitous excess to have brought Reyes' body back, after all? Maybe it's true and maybe it's another ploy to stimulate more phone calls and then it might become true.

juancegomez says on Mar 7, 2008, 10:01:

That's the claim...but it's too soon to tell.

jorgegdiaz says on Mar 7, 2008, 10:09:

i hope it´s true
FARC will deny it too. jsut like they denied that Martin Sombra wasn´t really him

Man with hole in pocket feel cocky all day.

Ctg Bound says on Mar 7, 2008, 10:19:

bamacellist,

Very true, as FARC would probably have denied Reyes death without the body.

The version of the colombian army has changed: Ivan Rios would have been killed by "companeros para la plata".
Wait; this may change again.

So it seems like his own buddies killed him, cut off his right arm and turned themselves in with the arm as proof of his death and brought his laptop too.

Very nice.

buggy,

Generally its the way when news first breaks.

juancegomez says on Mar 7, 2008, 13:41:

buggy: There was NO official announcement until very recently, so it's logical that first rumors may change before official announcements.

Just like Ecuador has finally DENIED any imminent operative to free Ingrid and all the other people, despite all of today's hype.

"Mr Santos (Colombia Defence Minister), said the Farc's chief of security gave Colombian troops the leader's severed hand as proof of his death." It is unclear why he was killed.

Ctg Bound says on Mar 7, 2008, 14:06:

lampltr,

For the money of course, isn't there US$5 millon for his head, or in this case his arm.

LDW says on Mar 7, 2008, 14:09:

I assume there will be access to his DNA to confirm that it was in fact Rios.

Ctg Bound says on Mar 7, 2008, 14:11:

The defence ministry checked the finger prints of the arm.

It doesn't to me confirn that he is dead, maybe they just chopped off his arm, but didn't kill him, or his arm was cut off in action etc.

LDW says on Mar 7, 2008, 14:14:

That is entirely possible.

Maybe Rios sold his arm for the $5 million.

Ctg Bound says on Mar 7, 2008, 14:25:

LDW,

Certainly a nice way of earning some dollars if you lost it in action or an accident.

Mr. Hollywood says on Mar 7, 2008, 14:25:

The other remaining 5 are seriously freaking out about now.

First Reyes betrayed by an informant. Then Rios offed by his own security guy.

We should start a betting pool on how long until the next one drops. I predict within 2 weeks.

LDW says on Mar 7, 2008, 15:28:

The informant who betrayed Reyes was fat ass Hugo himself, who gave away Reye's position with a phone call. That's why he was so pissed off.

Maybe Hugo will want to claim his reward.

As for the other members of the FARC leadership.....well....yes. I would guess there is some consternation amongst them.

ColombianoGringo says on Mar 7, 2008, 17:35:

If true, this is great news. It would mean that they are starting to turn on their leaders and no one trusts anyone else.

billyb says on Mar 7, 2008, 17:38:

Hello buggy? Are you buggin out? They are killing all your war heroes (which is only natural, as france has none).

getting better says on Mar 7, 2008, 17:43:

Clemenceau was a hero of WW1, though his intransigence at Versailles helped to cause WW2

billyb says on Mar 7, 2008, 17:43:

How secure does the FARC leadership feel right about now, when their own security details are killing them for the money? I see the ones with a price on their head heading to venezuela and jumping on chavez' lap, the ones that know where the FARC's bloodmoney is hidden are going to skip off with the cash in even greater numbers than they have done in the last year, and believe me the money the FARC has lost that way in the last year has been very significant.

billyb says on Mar 7, 2008, 17:45:

My bad, i guess if you go back enough centuries, you might find one or two ;))

pedro says on Mar 7, 2008, 17:50:

Hollywood, I don't think we can call a trend, yet.

I was reading that they've been tracking that FARC unit for weeks now, and had them effectively surrounded and bailed up.

I'm speculating on the very early information that, with no way out, there was a simple disagreement about the best course of action (surrender or not).

¡save pow wow!

assassinate = 1. to kill suddenly or secretively, esp. a politically prominent person; murder premeditatedly and treacherously.

By definition isn't it an assassination. what definition are you guys looking at? Yes I agree he is a legitimate target and should have been attacked but why would it not be an assassinaton? because he is an insurgent?

Smile if you are a thinker!

cali373 says on Mar 7, 2008, 22:57:

How secure does the FARC feel? I dug this up. It came from a Telegram from the U.S. Ambassador of Colombia Oliver to Secretary of State, September 17, 1965, about then president of Colombia Guillermo Leon Valencia.

[President Valencia] expressed pride in what his regime had accomplished against bandits and communists. Had just received info which made him confident Tirofijo might well be caught before August 7. This info was to effect Tirofijo's men had disbanded and he had gone over to deal with being more open. Plan was to cover area with military and chances of apprehending bandit within two or three weeks very good. (Comment: President has been overly sanguine in past re imminence of elimination Tirofijo).

This was 43 years ago.

Smile if you are a thinker!

billyb says on Mar 7, 2008, 22:58:
