Hotel de la Opera If you want to stash your mom in Candelaria, go all out and have her stay at Hotel de la Opera. It's very swanky and full service.

There's also Hotel La Botica, but since she's a Brit and from your previous posts money is no issue, I recommend the Opera.

I'm sure I don't have to tell you that Candelaria isn't the safest place after dark. It's also a Long way from Suba, but I'm sure that's part of your plan.

It'll be just fine My personal experience
My first time to Cali with my girlfriend to visit her parents, I spoke no Spanish, though 2 people in the house did. My girlfriend was helping her parents move, and was not available to spend much time with me, so I went out with her uncle almost everyday. There was no shortage of people willing to spend time with me, however. I went with him because he was closer to my age.

He spoke no English, had never been exposed to a "foreigner" before, and knew just a little of my likes and dislikes (though I am easy to please). We arranged ahead of time where he would take me (zoo, missions, etc), what I liked for food and my health limitations. They wrote a few phrases for me in Spanish, like "I am tired and need to rest", "I would like to go someplace else", etc. I have never had such a great time in my life. After the 2nd day we started understanding each other without language skills.

To make a long story shorter- we are in the process of getting married and I will be moving to Armenia aroung the end of Sept.

The moral to the story--If you don't want a new daddy, be careful who you have help with your Mum!
