Moving with family to Bogotá

I am from Bogota and live now in Texas. I am now an American Citizen, married to an American, and have two small children. My husband has lost his job as a Senior Technical Writer with a big corporation due to company restructuring and outsourcing of jobs to India. I work as a freelance translator from home. I have no family in the USA besides my husband and kids. We own a home and my older child is in the 3rd grade. We have been considering moving to Bogotá where the rest of my family is. I can still work as a freelance translator for my American clients and earn dollars. My husband is trying to find a telecommuting contract that would allow him to work from there. Or, he could become a teacher in a private school. He did that once in Bogotá for 6 months, years ago. He has been there and likes it. Is it a totally crazy idea to sell everything and go there to live? It sounds great to be able to have a life there, enjoy the family, and get all the help and support we need to raise our children. We have a good life here, from a materialistic point of view, but we feel lonely and wish we could be around my parents, etc. I am thinking that with the money I make we can have a pretty decent life. Any comments?? We really need to have as much info as possible.

Those damm English-speaking Indians! Let's confound the whole lot of them by learning Spanish. And randomly switching from English to Spanish and back again. Spanglish may save us in the end. I was talking to a telemarketer from India the other day - when I switched to Spanish and suddenly forgot my English that was the end of that conversation. She couldn't get off the phone fast enough.

True! I am starting to despise Indians. Our job security is in danger, and they are taking all the jobs. But, of course, it is not really their fault, but the fault of the CEOs of big corporations who want to fill their pockets with millions of $$ by getting rid of their qualified American employees and hiring a bunch of Indians who are happy earning pennies.
Talking about Indians, have you watched the movie "The Party" with Peter Sellers? He plays a hilarious mediocre Indian actor. The movie is very funny. To think that somebody like that maybe doing my husband's job!!

Gracias paisa29 Te agradezco mucho.

Moving to Colombia Mariángela

Hope everythings works out. We are also looking to move back to Colombia, mostly because of the family. Quality of Life is much better.

I've been looking for a job but it will be half (more than half) than what I make here, but you don't need much. Primary & Secondary Education is much better.

My wife says the same thing, she can't imagine going back to Colombia. What would the neighbors say? Don't worry. Life is good in Colombia. You live life not work like here in the states.

Go For It. I'm looking and within 6 months want to be based in Bogota

Let us know how it goes
