what I can gather one is not permitted to work on a spousal visa, therefore how about an investors visa, would one have the rights as a Colombian citzen as regarding employment thank you

i know its like minium wage

SiV says on Mar 24, 2008, 14:12:

You can work on a spousal visa as long as you get a contract and the idoniedad and propocionalidad.
A minimum wage just about keeps you in for your monthly toilet paper budget. Think about different employment.

sorry to bother you again what does idoniedad and propocionalidad mean can you tell me please thank very much for your time and effort

unless you own the bar you can only make like 400,000 to 600,000 depending on hours....really you will find it hard to live off of that .....unless you live under a palm tree and eat stolen mangos from the trees..and a vegetarian to

You need to contact the ministry of ER in Bogota. They can explain all that paperwork for you to make sure you have exactly what would be required of you to work on a conjugal visa. I went through the process a couple of months back and although it was an easy change, it was difficult to get the proper paperwork from my employer. I was the first foriegner that they had to make the change for.

google that certificate on PBH (it´s been beaten to dead here). It´s not difficult to get as long as your potential employeer is willing to do the paper work.

Rubito says on Mar 24, 2008, 15:18:

If on a spousal visa, you need either a contract of employment, OR to go to the chamber of commerce (camara de comercio) and register as being self-employed, and they will update your visa for free to list your new profession. This information is about a month and a half old, and straight from the horse's mouth.

In my case I'm probably not even going to bother with it unless it becomes legally and PRACTICALLY necessary. Most places will want to see the cedula de extranjeria and not bother past that!

but I guess you would not have to be married for that. With the certificate I understand you could get a workvisa anyway. Correct me if I am mistaken.

What I have, I do not want to lose, but Where I am I do not want to stay, but those I love, I do not want to leave, but those I know I no longer want to see, but Where I die, I do not want to go;I want to stay where I have never been

Rubito says on Mar 24, 2008, 15:30:

You can also go that route, BUT there is an extra step. You have to have evidence that your job could not have been filled by a Colombian. If you are planning on getting married you may as well save yourself that step.

so i guess if he qualifies or can teach english in cali via a school or private lessons then there is no need to provide evidence that the job could be done or done better by a colombian....i think they have this rule when brits emigrate to australia about us getting work there too but that doesn't seem to stop thousands going down under every year....

i wonder how many british born are leaving and going to poland every year...not as many as the million who have come to london last 2 years

i ilke that idea of living under a palm tree though eating mangos...kind of did that for a bit in parque tayrona near santa marta when i run out of pesitos last year cos the foods so damn expensive there.

In some fields it's a lot easier than others. If you wanna teach English you're a shoo-in, actually they are probably TOO lenient on that!

SiV says on Mar 25, 2008, 20:28:

Idoniedad= certification/ letter from employers stating your qualified to do the job.
Proporcionalidad= (proportionality) statement of ratio of foreign workers employed by the company. Colombian labour law states that firms can only employ a certain percentage of foreigners (anyone know what it is?).

If you wanna teach English you're a shoo in" They have really tightened down" on credentials and DAS has a unit that checks the schools.

what happens to the individual if they don't have credentials? And what happens to the school?

vicshere says on Mar 26, 2008, 10:51:

if you are a native speaker you really don't need credentials to teach extension courses....curriculum course are different you will need a least a university degree

Juanes says on Mar 28, 2008, 07:35:

vic, you sure i can get work as english teacher without the CELTA or TEFL certificate in Cali or barranquilla because i thought the colegios o escuelas de lenguas require this over there ? i have an english degree in business studies but i am planning to move over 2009 and possibly take a 4 week course beforehand or in bogota, i dont want to teach there though and live cos its too cold and the people are a bit colder than other places in colombia.
so can isave myself 1000-1400 dollars by not taking teaching course ?

cheers
