your items are probably worth $10 in total, if this is a serious post and not a joke, you would be better off giving it away to charity.Don`t know about other cities but in Barranquilla you get a free phone line from the metrotel and telefonica companies. And hangers are COL$2k/dozen.LOL.

You can sell the SIM card at a barrio tienda for 8.000 pesos. Everything else - just tell the neighbors to take what they want and dump the rest.

The SIM card - being the only thing of any value - albeit very little - might be worth keeping if you think you might have the chance that you will ever visit Colombia again.

Nice one. And this would be WHY people complain about this site. hmmm.

posted a for sale sign cause I would rather sell them than dump them into a landfill. And since when do brand new blankets have zero worth?

You know what, forget it. I will find another place to post from now on, this is ridiculous.

Travelgoddessm - Best wishes with your move, I am sure that you will find *someone* interested in practically new items. If I were there I would be!!!!

You would think that this would be the site to post such an inquiry.. I would have too.

...While I think that Peter really wants for this to become a travel site, the reality is that the majority of posters here aren't backpackers or strict budget types... Although to give Peter due credit I think that we are definitely getting more backpackers coming through

This site is a decade old, and while it might be hard to believe, there was a time when posters were mostly respectful and helpful. Unfortunately times have changed, and we have alot of people now who must be too bored to actually be helpful.

What doesn't help is that most Colombians themselves aren't generally too interested in second hand items, aside from larger things like cars etc... but of course one would hope that a fellow-traveller or foreigner would be interested...

ah well.

Travelgoddess what city are you selling in? I might be interested in a blanket if it's cheap enough. What else are you selling?

Desideria (Moderator) says on Feb 15, 2008, 00:27:

I've had two going-away sales in Colombia (one for myself and my family and one for my brother) both practically sold out. We put ads in the local newspaper (El Pais ) and at schools where we worked and my cheapo brother sold away even his old shoes! We sold ALL our reading in English, National Geographic magazines, dictionaries, novels whatever, basically everything, except some larger items that we didn't feel like selling cheap (we were attached to them) so we gave them to relatives.

I can't believe the snotty answers and remarks you've got. This IS a travel forum and not all the travelers are type "don't Colombians know what a REAL mattress looks like". This place is full of backpackers, English teachers, people struggling to make it good in Colombia but they don't sem to be the ones that have most free time to write.

Best of luck to you,
Desi

Common. A foreigner in Colombia selling two blankets, coat hangers and a sim card. That is begging for a hard time.

mranderson says on Feb 15, 2008, 10:25:

That's all she was selling? lol

What about the women's clothing? I think most people give used clothing to the church.

Actually I could use a couple more coat hangers but I can go downtown and buy them on the street for 2k pesos a dozen as peter solano pointed out. I'd be willing to accept the coat hangers as a gift, otherwise it's probably not worth it.

No takers on the sim card?? Seems the way some people get upset about giving a fingerprint to buy one that it would be easy to sell that to another foriegner.

we've been accused of being well heeled, monied, sex tourists; we use our massive wealth here in colombia as an edge for some easy slap and tickle with colombianas. i guess that's the claim of some disgruntled gringas here.

so we may not be looking for any blue light specials. something like this could give us a bad name. could you imagine walking around with a simm card looking for a phone.

it would be slam the ham that night.

I don't even understand what was so bad in the comments of this post? People are being accused of being pricks and childish and all that. Perhaps the poster is just too uptight about everything? I didn't read the original post because it was deleted before I could but maybe it was nonsense or ridiculous? I think anyone who gets upset or bent out of shape from the comments here has some other issues they need to deal with.

Well lets see who actually gave her a useful response?

She's looking for someone to purchase some relatively new things from her - how many offered?

Considering that PBH presumabely has travellers and people new to Colombia from elsewhere, who may be looking to buy ordinary little neccessities, I think she is rightly PO'd at a getting a bunch of smart ass comments.

From the top of the forum:

"Colombia is one of South America's hidden treasures. It's still off the beaten track, so you won''t run into hordes of fellow travellers - now is the time to go. The internal war continues, but it's safe to travel as long as you avoid certain areas, and there are loads of places to discover, from a jungle trek to the Ciudad Perdida to the sandy beaches of Parque Tayrona to the snowcapped mountains of the Parque de los Nevados, and of course, the Colombians themselves."

From the bottom of the forum:

Now slguy, How many of the posters here do you think have even read the intro and sitemap? What on earth makes you so certain that she is should have expected smartass comments? When it comes down to it, who holds the keys? the site is Peter's and all of us are visitors. How many are being supportive with his goals of making it a useful site for travellers?

How many of people are contributing in a positive way to meet the site goals of being a useful infortmation place? How many people are abusing it? Hmm?

I stand by my assessment that she is rightfully PO'd and congratulate her for letting it be known.

PO'd at what? And why can't she defend a simple smartass comment? I didn't see any bad comments above but then again I'm easy going and don't get upset over stupid little things on an internet forum. But anyway, congradulations at getting po'd at what I call nothing.

I still can't figure out what was so bad in the comments. I think I'm of average intelligence.

Followed by 4 dots?? Does the poster care to elaborate on this? Maybe with an example or 2? I would like to know why. Why didn't the poster just ask a moderator to delete the post?

Anyway...good job

Or better idea, trade it for some good Colombian coffee, my understanding is that Chile uses Nescafe.
