moving to bogota in september from the uk can anyone help with info on a work visa?

I first passed through colombia 7 years ago, i loved it so much i stayed for a year in Bogota and taught english, it's the one place in the world that has haunted me and i have to go back. Added to that i met and fell in love with a colombian girl here in the uk a year ago, she's just had to go back because of her visa and now i plan to join her in september. I have a tefl certificate and plan to teach english when i first arrive, does anyone know of a school in bogota looking for teachers? And can anyone give me some advice on obtaining a work visa? Also how much does it cost more or less now to live in bogota? You know to rent an apartment, cover bills and live a life? Thanks in advance for any help

You should check out craigslist for teaching jobs. Also the International School Services has a list of schools and the us department of state has a list of schools. Good Luck.

Not sure, but i think if you asked the colombian embassy in your country they should be able to point you in the right direction for a work visa.

I'm not sure either, but I believe I have read numerous times that a person HAS to get the visa - whatever kind of visa it is - outside of Colombia. In other words, if your in Colombia and then want a work visa, you would have to leave and apply with a Colombian embassy in another country. Check out a Colombian embassy website or give them a call.

Added to that you may have to get your TEFL certificate and/or degree (if you have one)legalized. I'd suggest you give them a call and have a chat. Link - http://www.colombianconsulate.co.uk/legalizations.html

well to get a work visa you need a contract with a Colombian company/school.....an easy way is to come into the Colombia on another kind of visa spousal /student/ pensioned/ect ...then when you are living here find yourself a company/school to work get a contract then go to MRE in Bogotá and change the visa to a work visa

One Exception... Vicshere is, as usual, correct. If you have a non-expired Colombian visa (not entry as a tourist using your passport) to may apply with the MRE office on the north end of Bogotá by Parque 93 to change your visa type-cost is about $160 USD.

Gator actually there is no cost when you have a valid up to date visa and want to change the occupation...so for example if you come here with a spousal it will most likely have hogar on it ... then find a job and go to Bogotá....as in my example I had a resident visa...then got my contract stuff together and went to Bogotá and no extra charge new visa with an occupation on it ...again you have to go to the DAS and notifie them of the change
