Moving To Bogota In April...HELP!!!!

What a great site! OK, here is the "Readers Digest" version of my story. I have been contemplating teaching English in foreign country for a few years now, but have never really pursued it. I have met a woman (yes...online, no judging please) that lives in Bogotá and I very much want to pursue her. I do not feel that a week or two vacation time together will enable us to determine if we are right for each other long term, so I am committing to one year in Bogotá. My plan is to take either the ISS TESL or Celta certification course in April. ANY advice as offered will be greatly appreciated, but anything specific to which ESL certification to receive, job leads, help in finding a small apartment ( I suspect I will eventually be living in her apt. but I want my own place first) would really help ease some of my natural apprehensions.

Looking forward to hearing from any of you "veterans" of Bogotá and Colombia in general.

Gracias,

LB

Here we go AGAIN ! Rubito is correct. (We agree on something....Yipee)
In fact he is 100% correct. Use the Google to the left and search the forum. It has been discussed at least 50 times......

Good Luck

Entiendo I have read all the previous postings relating to teaching in Bogota (and most of the others not retated to it as well...some are hilarious!) and found some very valuable info in them. I placed my message in the hopes of recieving some more current info and hopefully hear from someone who has actually gone through the process and is teaching now. The job fair in my area is only interviewing potential canidates that have 4 year teaching degrees. I apologise if this is redundant guys, I'm just trying to network as best I can through PBH. LB

Help in Bogota

There are people who rent apartments and rooms in Bogota on this site like myself. Or you can check into a hostle or hotel until you find an apartment. Your girlfriend should be able to help you with that. 99% of the time the apartment will have ablsolutely nothing in it. You will have to buy everything.

As suggested by Rubito getting yourself a job in Bogota while you are in the US is the best way to go about it. You can usually get a working Visa if you go this route. The search engine (mentioned by Rubito), on this site is a great way to get all of this information. And if some of these people have their email open you can ask them about their experience.

One last point. You can also get your girlfriend to check out places you may want to rent. When you do a search on this site also type in renting and see what you "may" have to do in order to rent in Colombia.

Good Luck
