Move from Cartagena to Medillin

I have lived in Cartagena for about a year and a half and the Costa mentality is realy starting to get to me. I am going to visit Medillin in about a week to look at apartments for rent, I want to look in strata 3-4 areas any recomendations would be apreciated.

Belen-Miravalle is a Strata 4 barrio parked right up next to Laureles. It's Strata 5 living at a discount.

Disclaimer: any comment I make is inane and is not to be taken seriously, and is so patently ridiculous that no one should take it seriously, even as an insult.

A gringo living on Guayabal is a little rough, no? From the minorista to the mayorista, it´s a pretty rough go and very industrial too. Although we do domicilios to the guayabal but it´s almost always to businesses during the day.

Conquistadores definitely. Also look at Estadio, Calasanz, Velodromo, Floresta. Where UC said is really nice as well. Belen has a lot of nice pockets. I personally like over by where I am (Belen La Palma) and also over by the deportivo Belen as well.

I just bought a place in Conquistadores. It is estrata 5. I will keep my place in Cartagena for Feb. and March, but I will be spending much more time in Medellin. I don't think that it would be possible for me to live in Cartagena 12 months per year. But I do think that I could live full-time in Medellin.

There are many good options in MDE. I much prefer the La Setenta area near where I bought. Envigado and Sabaneta can be nice as well.

I really don't think... ... that Guayabal is rough at all. I was raised in that neighborhood (about a block from Parque Cristo Rey) until I came to the US and then went back in December and January and it's still pretty good. It's definitely not El Poblado but rough... not really.

As far as places to live, estrato 4-5, then Laureles and Belen, La Mota are pretty good. I would even suggest Boston which is east of Avenida Oriental/Peru. There's a ton of new buildings being built and I saw that a lot of the new apartmens are for rent for about $450.000 pesos a month.

I´m not saying Guayabal is horrendous but... I just think a gringo living there would really stick out while your suggestions of Laureles & La Mota are dead on (for a gringo). Lomas de Los bernal is really nice too by the way. It´s like Poblado on this side of the river. I just happened to do a domicilio up there today at one called "alitos de san angel" cl 7 no. 81-107 and saw that apto 1402 is for sale. Nice building, nice but not spectacular from the outside, but reallly nice inside with nice tile and woodwork, wood doors, etc. Great green mountain views one side with panoramic citywide view on the other. Probably would cost low 100 millones. Nice high floor too as the building has 17 floors. Quiet & safe.

Boatygringo 1,200 sq ft....In meters, we are living in Colombia after all and everything I ever visited in Colombia in in square meters?

I have a 156m2 apt in estrata 3, awesome views in very very good condition, 4 years old, (tomtom has been there, I have also been to his new place in Medellin) the rent would me about 1 million pesos a month, utility bills at about 150,000 pesos a month, I only pay about 100,000 pesos, but I live there alone.

A friend is about to rent an apt in the same building, 96m2, 600k rent, utility bills would be the same as above.

In El Poblado (Estrato 5 & 6) my apt would cost about 1.4 - 1.8 million pesos to rent and the utility bills would be about 500k, I lived there for a year in a estrato 6 neighbourhood.

These above prices are all un-furnished apts.

I am in Ctg this week, living in the Old City, post a e-mail if you want and I will have a coffee with you, or in Medellin, where I am next week.

I am NOT involved in real estate for foreigners in Medellin.
