I recently purchased a new Suzuki V-Strom here in Medellin. The dealer recommended a Colombian insurance company called "Altagama LTD"
On September 7th. I paid 1,159,000 COP for only civil liability which included theft. I was told my policy would be delivered to me within a week. After numerous calls week after week I finally contacted the owner of Altagama LTD. He promised the policy would be delivered to me in two weeks November 15th. Instead of receiving the policy I received a cancellation notice with a promise my money would be returned to me. (yes, and pigs fly south every winter) He gave no reason for the cancellation, but the Suzuki dealer offered to recommend another good company without even an apology for recommending "Altagama". It shouldn't take three months to deliver a valid insurance policy once payment has been made.
I'm looking for recommendations for a reliable and honest insurance company here in Medellin. I own my apartment here in Medellin and have been told by legal counsel that additional insurance is necessary to protect my assets in case of an accident.
I have learned that moto insurance runs between 1,000,000 COP and 3,000,000 COP per year. ($500 to $1,500 per year) I'm interested in only the civil liability due to the high cost.

vicshere says on Nov 21, 2007, 14:43: elk insurance is a non issue here....the first twos years I bought insurance on my car 800,000 but it was a waste.....the problem most people don't have additional insurance and only carry standard government insurance.....most accidents can be solved by paying for the repair or a pay off.....a big accident and the insurance companies are no where to be seen....in other words drive carefully and be you own insurance company....life is dangerous in Colombia so life a dangerous life listo |
