MOSQUITOS IN CALI

Last time when I was in Cali (Ocrober 2008) I got bitten about 25 times in just a week.

The 1st time I went to Cali (February 2008), I did not get bitten at all.

This gives me a thought about buying a house in Cali in the future should I have a novia from Cali.

Would you recommend me to buy 'high-rise' apartment only? Will I get bitten by mosquitos if I live in ...say 10th floor?

I do not know much about mosquitos

I don't know about locations but I suggest some kind of penis sock if you sleep in the nude. Damn big bed bugs/piss ants/spiders and if they clamp down on your male member,, well,, just a thought,, just make sure you don't have an alergic reaction to latex, ?

We went to Cali, since I was a kid, and that was a big deal. My aunt, would spray the rooms with :Black Flag" and "don`t you dare leave the door open". I don`t know what was worse: getting yelled at, smelling that crap, the buzzing of the zancudos, or my mother turning the light on at 3:am, to kill one that does not let her sleep!.

Vive la vida y deja vivir!.

when i was last in colombia i had a big problem with mosquitos, probably cos im english and have white skin (so white i could hide in a row of milk bottles) on a friends advise i went to the pharmacy and they sold me some pills cant remember the name of them but you took them for a few days prior to going to mosquito zones and they worked very well, apparently they change the odour your skin emitts naturally and this stops the mosquitos biting, so ask in the pharmacy, they cost buttons and really worked well for me,oh my other half has reminded me that if you have a partner they need to take them as well or they get all the bites................ shame

I wouldn't reccomend a Novia in Cali, because it is also not the safest city. Watch out for DENGE.

I got bitten at least a 100 time a day when I was in rural Tolima. Scary Spiders also.

El Expatriado ........... I would avoid living in the rural areas in Colombia especially those people who are easily bitten by mosquitoes.

I thought what yoiusaid is true PCL, but I looked it up in the English / Spanish dictionary, and it said Zancudos are Mosquitos. The people I know in Colombia call mosquitos Zancudos. But in central america, these little things kept biting me on the legs, and they always called them Zancudos. So eithert hey were little mosquitos, nosee-ems, sand flies or midges.

I think they call any little insect thet bites or sucks blood a "Zancudo" in Latin America.

THAT'S HOW HIGH CAN MOSQUITOS FLY

"Mosquitoes that bite humans prefer to fly at heights of less than 25 ft. Asian Tiger Mosquitoes have been found breeding in treeholes over 40 feet above ground. In Singapore, they have been found in apartments 21 stories above ground. Mosquitoes have been found breeding up to 14,000 feet in the Himalayas and 2000 feet underground in mines in India
this is from The American Mosquito Control Association(AMCA)
so I think it can fly up to 14,000 feet"
