more ministry of ER questions concerning conjugal visa

Two more questions that I hoping you all can help me with since it is so hard to reach the ministry in Bogota. These are for me (a US citizen) to get my visa to live as a spouse in Colombia since I am now married to a Colombian.

1) Does my Colombian spouse have to be present with me when I go get my visa at the ministry? I know I need a letter but we are unsure if he must be there and since we live in Bucaramanga, it might be easier if he doesn't have to go.

2) Does anyone have an example of the letter that their spouse wrote? or atleast know exactly what wording it must include?

Thanks again for all your help!

Adrienne

1.Two passport pictures (photo shops right outside the front door).

2. His valid passport which should be good for six months.

3.Fill in the application form.(Print this form from several sites)

4.Photocopy of Passport.

5.Authenticated (notarized) copy of the Marriage Certificate.

6.Written application of the Colombian spouse requesting the visa. The letter from the Colombian spouse should state the duration of the relationship, the town where the couple will settle and the activities they plan to undertake, and requesting that a visa is granted to the spouse. This letter has to be notarized or your husband MUST be present. MRE does have a sample letter but it is not a requirement to use theirs.

7.Authenticated copy of the Colombian spouse's ID.(Cédula de Cidadania)

As someone who is in the same boat as the original poster Adrienne (I'm an Irish citizen recently married to a Colombiana) applying for my conjugal visa, the info you gave is excellent Gator, but one other question, what time frame are you looking at once you have all your documents in order and you go to the MRE (I'm a bit worried because I only have 2 weeks left on my tourist visa!!)

Much appreciated
