more inquiries!

Hey my situation has recently changed as I have been planning a move to Colombia to teach English for a while now. It was only recently I reached my goal target of 10 grand AU plus air fairs, instead of leaving now quite half heatedly with only 10 grand to my name I have decided to keep working until the end of the year so that I will have closer to 25AU.
I recently had my heart set on Medellin but my friends have all recently moved to Cartagena.
I was wondering the following.

1. is there much opportunity for me teaching English in a city such as Cartagena ?
2. is there much shopping (latest fashion stores Calvin Klein etc) in that area ?
3. would it be hard for me as a gringo speaking very basic Spanish to rent an apartment, go shopping and just do day to day things etc ?
4. all though I do not advertise this I do like to party and was wondering what would happen if I was discovered to me holding a small amount of cocaine of marijuana say 5 or 6 grams by police, also what is the best way to avoid and deal with these situations (bribe ?) from happening in the first place (apart from not doing drugs) ? thus tips on concealed pockets do they work etc?
5. also with 20 thousand Australian dollars will i be able to live comfortably in a city such as Cartagena? e.g. have a nice apartment in town nothing to special but a funky little studio apartment near the beach would do, especially in a city as beautiful as Cartagena, also probably going cloths shopping and clubbing some times on the weekend ...not splashing large amounts of money just enough to live a little above comfortably.

regards

Hola pledge,

You say: "I recently had my heart set on Medellin but my friends have all recently moved to Cartagena. "

Your "friends" should be your best source.

Why not contact them FIRST, and THEN ask your questions to a bunch of us goofballs on PBH?

jejejeje.

Enjoy Cartagena.

You will definately find a lot more job opportunities in Medellin. Cartagena is a fun place, but it´s money drain, and the beach is below par. For a job, check out the yellow pages in the Medellin phone book. Lots of English academies, and schools the need English teachers.
