More FARC documents / e-mails, real or otherwise...

They can be found here:

http://www.noticias24.com/actualidad/?p=12551

http://www.eltiempo.com/conflicto/noticias/ARCHIVO/ARCHIVO-3985321-0.p...

I have to say...even in the event these may turn out to be false, at least they are quite interesting and awfully convincing forgeries.

Of course, if they are actually real...that goes without saying.

It makes for a good amount of speculation of where things are/were heading to in several areas though, of course.

However, in that case...making them public still isn't such a good idea, in my opinion.

Yes, buggy... did you read them, true?

I agree, juancegomez, Colombia could use those documents in a better way.

It's not a very big deal to bypass login security on a home computer and if you just mount the disc as a storage disc on another computer running the OS it's not even necessary. Most people do rely on login security and don't bother with data encryption. Do you? Email encryption is another story. Yes, they would find it exceedingly difficult to decrypt encrypted correspondence unless they were running the computer as the user holding the key (I don't know if they can simply transfer the key to another computer- maybe or not, could depend on the scheme that generates the key and verifies it in use), in which case the decryption is seamless and therefore not a problem. Of course, they may have not been using encryption. Who knows?

On a related note, Caracol radio has published some supposed farc communications intercepts. They are interpreting them as showing fear and disarray amongst the rebels. Even if these are real, I would classify the conversations as concerned, but not necessarily panicked. Judge for yourselves. They are of course in Spanish.

Although the supposed farc members don't sound too scared in the transcripts, if these are real, they are bound to be pretty freaked out once they hear this on the radio. Several are named by alias and real name.

buggy : Some of the pictures show a real mess, but according to Ecuadorian reports and other photos, other parts of the camp were in better shape and the authorities found weapons, equipment, kitchens, etc. in good condition. It wasn't exactly a "carpet bombing" of the entire camp, only part of it.

As for encryption...all I know is that the documents themselves do have encoded names and dates, so it's a matter of speculation to opine about what other protection measures existed or not.

I heard that computers were protected and documents were encrypted by RR fingerprint. They just cut his finger away and use it.

I would love to hear Houstongal's comments on the hard drive status and the encryption issues.
