Montoya

Any F1 fans here? I am very excited that Juan Pablo went to McLaren. Hopefully McLaren will get their #$ at % together this year and Juan can win some races. I really believe that guy has what it takes to win the championship. Go Juan Pablo!

For those that might be curious, I am a Montoya fan from his days in Champcar. He dominated while there and it is too bad Williams hasn't been up to Ferrari's standards the last few years.

Not a big fan but Bought some Montoya model cars, 8x10 fotos and posters on eBay to bring down with me for my sports bar down in Medellin.

Then got screwed by buying really nice Renteria (Cardinals) and Cabrera (Boston) jerseys for the walls just to have Renteria traded to Boston and since they play the same position, who knows where Cabrera will end up. I guess I can call them old school jerseys now. lol.

And speaking of Old School, I'm bringing down like 100 old Sports Illustrated mags from 1979 - 1987 to put in the bar. Great fotos of Michael at North Carolina, Ewing at Georgetown, Gretzky looking like a kid, etc.

Are you kidding, I never miss a race! Except when hurricane Charley took my electricity for 9 days. I was more upset about that than being without airconditioning.

I am looking forward to seeing what McLaren can do this year, I am actually a big fan of Kimi too so it will be interesting to see who is the dominant driver.

My favourite F1 team though is Renault and their driver Alonso, they are bringing out a new car so it will be interesting. Hopefully they will have a bit more top end oomph to go along with the low end grunt of last year. Their launches were scary. Think what Montoya could do with his passing ability and a launch like the Renaults.

F1 - never miss a race Im an Australian and a huge f1 fan, havent had a favorite really since prost retired but like alonso. As an aussie have to say im very interested how Webber goes at Williams, however following him led to a big embarassment when i was in Colombialast year. Was with friends on a day tour in the rosario islands and saw that a man was listening to the grand prix on a radio, i innocently asked how webber was doing and got a filthy look from the man, my friends jumped in quickly and said "mark Webber" and then explained taht i had asked the man "where was testicles'. It was funny once the explainations had gone round, funny how an accent can change the meaning of a word.
Still i hope Montoya does well this year, he is one of a few who seem to have the "webbers" to take on Schumi in a straight fight

Car for car, Villeneuve is better then Shumacher Ask that question to any F1 journalist, they'll always answer that.

I'm a huge Villeneuve fan, he got burned when he went to BAR, Richards pulles bad tricks on him in 2003 and he took a sabatical last year.

He's back this year and hopefully, he'll kick Shumacher's a$$.

Anyone remember what Shumacher pulled on him in 1997 but failed to? (provoking an accident so Villeneuve would abandon the last race and he would win the championship?)

It's like if Lance Armstrong would have provoked the fall of Jan ULLRICH in the last stretch ot the Champs Elyses in order to secure his win.

Shumacher maybe the world champion 6 times over but he has no class. Villeneuve was vice-champion in 1996 then champion in 1997 and has always shown class.

Ah yes, Villeneuve and Montoya are not buddies. It will make for interesting races...

Et on court au Circuit Gilles Villeneuve de Montréal!

Lets not get into Schumacher bashing. People will always rant about Schumi because he is winning everything. If the Ferrari wasn't so damn good, would he be winnning so much? Of course not. Witness the two years Mika won the championship. Anybody who thinks that Schumacher is not a huge reason why Ferrari is so good now is out of their mind though.

Brunito, I read F1 magazine regularly and follow many motorsports websites. I don't remember anyone ever saying Villeneuve is better than Schumacher other than the Canadian fans on tsn.ca. He is the typical spoiled baby F1 driver. He won in 97 because the Williams was by far the best car. You don't think he had anything at all to do with that car being good do you? He burns himself and limits his opportunities by refusing to do sponsorship appearances and things like that. He will do nothing this year because he is not in a good car.

I was hoping to hear some Colombians that are excited to see that Montoya has changed teams and might have a chance to win some more races. I am not a big McLaren fan but I will cheer for Montoya every race. It is amazing to see how many Colombian flags are waving at the USGP. Makes you realize there are tons of Colombians in the states.

Don't get me started on the USGP, that was the biggest cockup I've seen in years.

Has Red Bull found an American GP driver yet?

Anyone that thinks Villeneuve is better than Schumi must be Canadian. :-)

I am no Shumacher fan but the guy rarely makes mistakes and when he does he can usually catch them, that is not the car, that is the driver. It would be interesting to have a racing series, perhaps 6 races with all the F-1 drivers running identical machines. My nod would go to Alonso or Button, Montoya is too rough on equipment, brilliant to watch though.

BMW eats brakes and that didn't suit Montoya's style.

World Rally drivers kick ass too!

oldgringo, you are right. My only experience is in Cali, but I think a lot of those taxi drivers drove like madmen. I mentioned Montoya to one of them and he got this huge smile, said something in Spanish I didn't understand and started driving even faster and more agressive. My novia told me to keep quiet! Hahaha

kernow, I agree. It would be great to see all those guys in the same equipment for a few races. We would really see who the man is then. People talk a lot of crap about Champcar because of the one engine and chassis but at least we know who the good drivers are. Rally drivers are freakin insane. I love watching rally racing. Too bad it is not very popular here in the states. Speed Channel does show all of the WRC races though.

The other guy I like in F1 is Rubinho. I guess that is leftover from the days with my brazilian ex. I get so excited when he out-qualifies Schumi or finishes better than Schumi. Plus he just seems like a nice guy. Unlike some of the dickheads in motorsports, like JV.

Go Montoya!

fzrdan, Villeneuve could have won in 1996 as well if Williams... ...would have listened to him instead of keep saying that he did'ne know what he was talking about because of him being from Indy and F3000.

He only really started listening to him about setting the car his way once the championship was locked for Damon Hill (driver's) and for Williams (construcor's) and that Villeneuve was vice-champion.

In 1997, they finally left Villeneuve play around with the car his way and from then on, Damon Hill was always behind. He could have better leverage against Shumacher as well if they'd started listening to him earlier.

Btw, the Shumacher bashing is merited by Michael himself. He did that on more than one occasion, the incident withh Villeneuve being just one more example...

Imagine if his father, Gilles Villeneuve would have lived and taken his retirement in the late 80s. I would just have loved to see those races between Senna, Prost, Villeneuve and Piquet.

Arton Senna and Gilles Villeneuve died way too early.

Can't wait untill the season's start.

brunito, I agree that Senna and GV died too early. Those would have been some great battles. The difference between JV and Schumi is that Schumi actually helped bring a crap team to greatness. JV was at BAR for years and got nothing. Anyway I don't really want to debate about JV. I want to hear some Colombians talk about JPM. I am disappointed we haven't heard some Colombians POV.
